Yes, 6-10 were definitely unexpected, except for Get together, which is kind of a newer Madonna classic. I like the naughty Inside of me too.

what's naughty about it? it's about her mother FGS...

Really?? I always thought she was saying that she'd always have the remembrance of a boy that has been inside of her, not that she was mentioning her mother, that would always be inside her heart!!

She sings it so languidly. I mean, I get almost the impression of a Bedtime masturbation. The second verse indicates that it's more likely to be her mother, but as a whole, the lyrics could be read this other way. Now I'll have to rethink that song. An old Madonna song suddenly turns new. eek

I wish she would have brought it out for this tour and tweak it for her second divorce. It's quite a gem.

Yes! It's a perfect pop song IMO.

She will never sing it live because it's about Sean Penn - She will also never perform 'True Blue' for the reason too, although I hear she doesn't like it along with 'cherish', which is another slice of pop perfection.

You've heard she DOESN'T like Cherish, Till death do us part nor True blue?!? bawl

7) Survival

I share your love for this one. Only we mentioned it. It's greatly produced. Even the instrumental cut is a groove.

Survival (instrumental)

I'm surprised you're the first person that listed a bigger number of songs but didn't mention Like a prayer. Up to that, I thought that song was showing up to be the only agreement near the top of the lists of all declared big fans.

Yup she admitted she thinks Cherish is retarded (or something like that) in a magazine interview not so long ago. Madonna stans might know which one.

She also hates 'Who's that girl' and 'burning up'- but still performed a 'rock' version on the 'Reinvention'

Not sure she dislikes ‘Till death do us part’ but because it’s about Sean I doubt she will ever perform it live and it’s also an album track.

Wonder what she thinks of ‘This used to be my playground’ another #1 that was omitted from ‘Celebration’ and ‘Dear Jessie’ – I love the innocence of it.

So you never know what her next set list will contain. Although 'Burning up' was barely noticeable on the rock version she performed - it sucked, she might as well played an album track no one knew what it was.

But Burning up was performed by the Stooges in her Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction.

There's also this version from before her solo career even started! And the rock version is actually pretty good!

Yes, Cherish is pretty much one of the best things she's ever done. It's not retarded, it's supposed to be innocent!

Regarding cherish, I think Madonna kinda looks down upon her early girlish recordings, which Cherish was the last of. I think she'd take Dita over Dear Jessie any day.

I am quite a casual fan of hers too, but was hardcore in my teens. My absoulte favourite song is Like a Prayer, words can not describe how great it is (I know I am off the gaydar with that). I remember when it came out, they had a PEPSI commercial slot on March 2 1989 I think it was, my cousin (The day before her 12th birthday) and I (aged 12 years and 10 months) were glued to the screen and it came on, and the video with the Black Priest and then the gospel choir, it was so fabulous I nearly cried, and then my auntie comes in "You are too young to watch that smut" and turns the TV off in the last verse (BITCH!!), fortunately she was so spoilt she got the album the next day and I was listening to it, Dear Jessie, Oh father and all. She and I had been hardcore Madge fans since like a virgin (We were singing it as 7 and 8 year olds at a family do and had no idea what a virgin was and the parents were going apeshit).

Does anyone else have any childhood Madonna memories.

1. Like a Prayer

2. Justify my love

3. Don't Cry for me argentina (I loved Evita)

4. This used to be my playground

5. Music

6. Like a virgin

7. Papa don't preach

8. Vogue

9. Live to tell

10. Oh father

Others in no order

Holiday

Borderline

Dress you up

Angel

True Blue

Open your heart

White heat

Whos that girl

Causing a commotion

Cherish

Express Yourself

Dear Jessie

Lovesong (I know, but I like it)

Hanky Panky (Another guilty pleasure)

Erotica

Rescue Me

Deeper and Deeper

You'll see

Take a Bow

Human nature

Frozen

Ray of Light

Drowned World

Substitute for love

Beautiful Stranger

What it feels like for a girl

Hung Up

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

It's not a remix, it's the original version. It's called Erotic and was sold with the Sex book in a case that looked like a condom packet lol

Okay, sorry. I guess I just meant that it's not the 'album version' - I thought it was a remix but you're right; it's the one that came with the book.

That's true, but it worked for the superbowl and she needed a remix to preform it live on tour.

With this amount of great songs - some of them undeniable even to non-fans (such as Like a Prayer or Vogue) - , I'd say she's AT LEAST underrated for the GREAT pop songwriter that she is (once she's been part of almost all the writing of her songs).
