Speaking of Grace Jones...would you say she is a great singer?

Or a unique one?

No, she's not great....but she's passable. I tend to think of Grace as more of a French chanteuse style singer rather than a traditionally good vocalist. Overall, she's a great stylist, but if you break the parts from the whole she's not great by any means.

I've always dug Grace, but for the whole package than the parts. cool

Grace Jones is not a great vocalist but she can be a great performer and pull a great show around her. She did it before Madonna and Lady GaGa. And apparently, she can still pull it off! wink lol

I think she is a good singer, and i really like her vocal style.

Have you guys heard some of her more balladesque stuff? i think she holds a pretty stong voice.

I would love to see Grace and Bowie perform together--what a show that would be... smile I wonder if they ever worked together? I never thought about it until now...

She's not a great singer but she beats the hell out of Lady Ga Ga. Grace recorded some pretty fantasic songs back in the 80's.

"Pull up to the bumper" will always be the Grace Jones Classic that people over 30 will remember more than anything else,....

After all these years I still say Marvel/Disney Studios SHOULD have cast Grace as Storm in X-Men instead of Halle Berry...Grace would've rocked that role and she would have been remembered whereas Halle is easily forgotten...

Ya'll remember Grace in her over-the-top performance in Boomerrang (speaking of Halle one more time)? Grace was off the chain in that flick...

I don't know who stole their scenes the BEST Grace or the Late-Great Earth Kitt....They truly delivered...LOL...

Unique Yes.

And her performances to this day are mind blowing and amazing.

She is an artis by heart and no cheap marketing trick.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

She has vocal abilities. She has vocal range and techniques. It's easy to perceive it. It's not like she's a total failure as a singer. She may not work as well in the conjuct, but she has her moments. And that is far better than many famous people believed to be singers today.

She's more than just a singer, when people go to see her there isn't that 'oooh' head-shaking moment for a note or a run...but there'll be an 'oooh' for something she's doing or wearing.

BUT she can sing...she can hit -and hold - notes(even if she does choose to turn them into growls!).

All the showing off in the world wouldn't have sustained a career as long as Grace's if the singing was just passable.

Pretty powerful voice, strong vibratto, pitch perfect; the fullest potential to be great, but she focuses more on the overall performance pkg. smile

I disagree. Grace is known for many things and being a singer is just apart of it. She started as a model, but she's famous for both singing, being a muse, and acting too. Given that most of her fame is either underground and/or European based, it's quite possible that she could have remained famous while not having the world's best voice. Europe is full of tons of examples of this kind of "general" fame...Jane Birkin and Vanessa Paradis off the top of my head. wink
