This show was amazing! I was there tonight and wasn't sure what to expect, but man, I'm never going to see a show like this in my lifetime, I'm so glad I went instead of ignoring it like I was going to. They were raw, funky, emotional and even if they are not michael, they are talented and his bloodline that have a musical connection with him that resonated well with the audience. I felt emotional at times during the michael tribute bits, but they carried it on their own and sang his parts well. Jermaine did a great job, I was SO glad he sang Do What You Do, that was my shit back in the day! And Marlon can dance his ass off still and was rocking that sequined white shirt! Their band was also amazing, including a guitarist MJ had used on tour and musicians from Memphis that had worked with Elvis Presley. I was so emotional during the michael parts, but mostly happy and feeling so blessed I got to see these guys I've listened to for so many years! And of course they'll sing MJ songs, they did it like it would have been for Triumph or Victory, and I Can't Let Her Get Away was performed, probably for the diehard MJ fans! It was such a cool version too.

They performed Can't Let Her Get Away?! That is still one of my favorite MJ jams!!! biggrin

Yep smile I went crazy and so did the audience, they moved so well to it too and were introducing their band members during it. The audience went the craziest during dstyge, shake your body and wbss all in the end though, on their feet. One of janet's tour musicians was also there and played a snippet of what have you done for me lately smile

LOL @ them doing more Michael songs than their own #OVA

No they did a lot of Jacksons/J5 material and also some Jermaine solo stuff besides the MJ songs.

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/06/21/jacksons-kick-off-tour-with-a-few-bumps

Jacksons kick off tour with a few bumps

RAMA, ONT. - Not touring for nearly three decades is bound to lead to some cobwebs.

But aside from a few technical difficulties and the occasional pitch problem, The Jacksons 2012 Unity Tour - their first since 1984’s Victory Tour - launched at Casino Rama on Wednesday night with better than expected results and without the lightning in the bottle that was Michael Jackson.

After a false start opening with a soundless video montage of The Jackson 5 as it used to be with little bro Michael (who was a major presence through the night via stills and video and an actual tribute segment) - the four remaining Jackson brothers kicked off their 95-minute show with Can You Feel It.

Backed by nine musicians - Jackie, 61, Tito, 58, Jermaine, 57, and Marlon, 55 - were otherwise front and centre, busting some familiar dance moves through early songs Blame It On The Boogie and Rock With You before sitting on stools and chatting to each other in a more slowed down second quarter.

“How you feeling?” said Marlon, who shared lead vocals with Jackie and Jermaine (the strongest voice of the bunch) and Tito, the latter who also played guitar.

Judging from the crowd who quickly gathered at the front of the stage, the audience of 4,500 (just shy of a sell-out), was feeling good.

Marlon explained how he got the far-flung brothers back together, saying Tito was into building cars at the time.

“Marlon, I was building my third son when you called me - get it right,” interrupted Tito with a smile.

The tribute to Michael came in the otherwise uptempo third quarter full of old Motown classics I Want You Back, ABC and Never Can Say Goodbye, as Jermaine took over lead vocals on Gone Too Soon while stills of Michael were shown on a video screen above the drummer and the segment ended with a raised silver sequined glove raised in the air.

“I miss you so much Michael,” one of the brothers later during I’ll Be There which sparked the first crowd singalong.

Then Jermaine was briefly given the solo spotlight for a trio of songs, Dynamite, Let’s Get Serious - which saw him pick up a bass - and Do What You Do before the brothers returned with the final uptempo segment and couple of Michael Jackson classics, Wanna Be Starting Something and Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough, which really got the audience up and dancing.

The final song of the night was a Jacksons chestnut, Shake Your Body, and by that time pretty much everyone in the building was obeying that command.

Marlon turned out to the group’s live wire with Tito commenting: “My brother the dancing machine. Just wind him up.”

They sure wasn't performing much in 22 years. lol

Their setlist shows their limitations. Reminds me of Jermaine's "tribute" concert from two years ago.

Limitations or not - this is their entire set list according to Toronto Sun

WOW. eek I love how diverse the song list is!

Yes I am pretty surprised I must say...

I thought the tour would be cancelled

I'm surprised they did such a diverse set list

I'm surprised they are getting decent reviews as well so far...

People on twitter seem to have enjoyed the show as well

At last one of the brother acknowledged Randy without being asked about it:

I must share this with you guys. We really miss Michael and Randy tonight but we knew his sprit was with us. Love you MJ Ragoo Study Peace.

That's great alphastreet! Glad you went and had a great time, thanks for the review thumbs up! Maybe, just maybe they'll be able to pull this off and if its successful, maybe it will give them the confidence and spark they need to continue touring, singing their own songs and even record a new album. smile

Yeah I was also thinking they should have been doing this all along, they're still kind of young enough lol I was hoping Katherine would be there since it was the opening night, but she wasn't.

And yeah it really felt like a blessing being there though I missed Michael. I was able to focus on the positive

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Yes interesting that none of the other family members were there but maybe its because the concert was in Canada? (If) when they come and play in California hopefully the rest of the family will attend.

^^^Based on the Twitter feed, it seemed like a great mix of Jackson 5 and MJ-tribute jams. And you gotta give credit where it's due: JERMAINE ACTUALLY SANG HIS SOLO SONGS FOR ONCE! excited

In all honesty, why does it feel like I'm the only one here who is actually ROOTING for the brothers?

You're not the only one...as I said above, if they came to my area I would definitely be there and I am absolutely thrilled by the great setlist and reviews so far. I'm sooo HAPPY for them and I'm praying that they keep getting good reviews so they will add more dates.

And I'm not surprised either because I know the talent is there. The only thing I wondered about was if there were still enough of us left who were fans of ALL the Jackson brothers and not just Mike.

I suspect that circumstances forced them to get their asses out there, but I didn't doubt they could deliver!

I hope so too, it's totally worth it. I hope it continues to do well. Something about them working and doing what they're supposed to instead of living off michael and their mother's money gives me a good feeling and makes me respect them more.

Yeah I think they wanted this for a long time too, but it's a shame it had to take michael dying for it to happen though I also think it might have worked anyways, especially if it was done right away after MSG.

I'm not sure a tour would have worked then, because of the twin towers and people focused on that.

I missed him so much at night, I had woken up in the middle of the night again feeling angry at him for dying, replacing the thought with telling myself it's misplaced anger from the trauma of how died and resentment over my emotions, remembered seeing the brothers feeling happy and fell asleep feeling okay after. I will never be okay with how he died even if I'm finding peace with myself as an individual without lettIng this define my life though I tend to think about it too much
