Which songs do you think they did most justice? What did you enjoy most?

To be honest, I enjoyed them all, and really wasn't thinking about rating the songs one against another. I think it was just because I was to see that they really pulled it off. I turn 50 this year, and have been a J5 fan since their very first album. Even a fan during the "iffy" years I think they did a great job choosing the setlist. . .some of the early J5 stuff (after the ABC, Stop the Love You Save years) I hadn't heard live ever.

I do to ... its impossible to not smile while watching this interview I just cant help but think about Randy though, I hope people know their are 5 remaining brothers and not 4.

When The Rolling Stones tour they don't talk about Brian Jones or Mick Taylor. I don't think Van Halen are talking about Sammy and Michael. Groups generally don't bring up people who are not currently in the group, unless asked.

Jacksons Rock The Apollo As Comeback Tour Rolls On

The Jacksons: Showtime at the Apollo.

Last night in front of Harlem’s Apollo Theater, the only thing thicker than the steamy summer air was the sense of anticipation.

Michael Jackson impersonators pranced across the sidewalk as street vendors proffered glossy photo albums of the brothers, all while camera crews from the major networks looked on. Inside, the surviving members of the Jackson 5—Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Jackie—prepared to take the stage.

“We wanted to do the Apollo because this was pretty much where we started,” Marlon explained. “We wanted to come back and do a show here just to reminisce, just to give the Apollo something back.”

And give back they did. The Jacksons appeared on the stage in a puff of smoke, removing their sunglasses in unison for added effect. They quickly launched into a stirring rendition of “Can You Feel It,” bringing a capacity crowd to its feet before moving on to their brother’s hit “Rock With You” and a string of others.

It almost didn’t matter what songs they played. There was a certain supernatural electricity in the air, Michael Jackson’s brothers playing the songs they once performed together with him as well as others he sang on his own, stomping the same stage that served as one of their first launching pads over 40 years ago.

There will be more stomping in the coming weeks and months. Last night’s Apollo performance was the fifth of about 20 shows the Jacksons will play through July as part of their Unity tour, their first since the Victory tour with Michael in 1984.

“It was time,” says Jermaine. “It’s so much music, it’s a legacy that we have to continue to put out there with integrity and high standards. And it’s healing, too … We want to do this for [Michael], for us, for our 40 years of hard work.”

The tour should also provide a nice boost to the brothers’ coffers. The Jacksons have been playing venues like the Apollo that seat 1,500-2,000 people, and one member of their team estimates they’re pulling in an average of $65 per ticket.

That adds up to a nightly gross of about $100,000-$130,000, of which the brothers likely take home 30-40% before paying out managers, agents and lawyers.

According to the brothers, though, the Unity tour is just a prelude to a larger comeback. They’re hoping to eventually launch a bigger international tour, but first, they’re heading back to the recording studio to finish up a new album.

“When it’s ready,” says Jermaine, “we’ll let you know.”

But thats different even though I do see your point.

Tito, Marlon, Jermaine and Jackie have been asked questions and have been treated like they are the remaining members of the band. I think they could have clarified more that they are not or at least mention Randy being apart of the Jacksons as well in those circumstances.

At some point, this family is gon' have to accept the fact that it is

officially over. You cannot recover from MJ's death - there isn't

any talent in that family which would be able to make us forget

Without Michael, who would want to see The Jacksons? By the third song, many of the packed crowd at Chastain Park Amphitheatre, including this admitted skeptic, were wondering why they hadn’t gone out on tour sooner.

The Jackson brothers, Jermaine, Marlon, Tito and Jackie, along with their tight band and background singers put on a spectacular scene, getting the audience out of its seats by opening with their 1980 hit “Can You Feel It,” and kept fans screaming, grooving, until their finale, the dancing, shouting “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground).”

We’d forgotten that it was the Jackson 5 and that the brothers who were all fantastic performers in their own rights. So when Marlon would show off his dance moves, it was a reminder he could hold his own with Michael. Or when Jermaine sang “Let’s Get Serious,” and “Do What You Do” we were reminded that he, too, had a successful solo career.

Rather than simple nostalgia for the white-socked, one-gloved, I (heart) MJ button and faux leather “Beat It” jacket wearers, this concert was more about the experience of the Jacksons in the 1970s and 1980s. When the brothers fired up songs like “Lovely One” and Jackie’s “Time Waits For No One” — tracks from their 1980 “Triumph” album – it was a time to reminisce about the fantastic songs that you would get to know after the needle had drilled skips into “Heartbreak Hotel.”

While the brothers raced through a medley of their early hits, including “ABC” and “The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There,” they were unconventional with their playlist, picking “Got To Be There” and “I Wanna Be Where You Are,” solo hits for Michael on Motown. It was enough to evoke memories of Michael Jackson’s performances and never drifted into tiresome tribute.

And who better to sing Michael’s hits than his brothers? With the crowd filling in the hee-hees, oohs and shrieks of “Rock With You,” “Don’t Stop to You Get Enough” and “Wanna Be Startin Somethin’,” it was a joyous concert, still magical, even without Michael’s presence.

The Jacksons Unity tour could become a pilgrimage, something akin to the shows that Boomers flock to see year after year, like Phish or Frankie Beverly and Maze, where fans know what to expect, and leave the venue with a dance and a shout.

Nice Love hearing the audience really enjoy themselves. Found a couple of comments from the article I posted from people who were there at that concert:

I couldn’t have agreed more with this review of last night’s concert. I must say that this 34 year old was shocked and amazed. The brothers looked, sounded and danced great!!!!
I’d had been on the fence about going to the concert. I thought without Mike it wasn’t going to be worth it. However, I was wrong. It was definitely work it. I had a great time.
In my opinion, for the first time for me Mike’s brothers have stepped from behind his shadows and showed that they too are talented.

Great show!!!!!
