I don't like the way most 1980s music sounds, so I don't rank Control or Rhythm Nation too highly..

Janet Jackson (I prefer the original record. The CD has the remix of Say You Do. I like it and it was played on the radio at the time, but I'm more used to hearing the original album as it is. They could have just added the remix as an extra track.)

That's definetly in my top three.

As everyone will know , this is a hard one for me, but here goes:

Janet Jackson-B One of my faves from the album is the new-waveish "Come Give Your Love To Me". The Sylvers-produced "Don't Mess Up This Good Thing" is another great cut. It was good early-'80s bubblegum pop.

Dream Street-B LOVE the excellent, Marlon Jackson-produced "Don't Stand Another Chance". I think this album was sorely overlooked. Some of the tracks had that Prince-vibe. "Fast Girls", "Pretty Boy" and "Hold Back The Tears" are three more standout tracks.

Control-A+ What else is there to say? This is the one that started it all...iconic and classic...people were like "Yeah, we know about Michael, but who is this??"

RN 1814-A+ Another iconic work, through its music, videos, choreographed routines and tour, it established Janet as one of the major players in the '80s. Fuck what everyone says about "The '80s Three"--MJ/Prince/Madonna--Janet earned her spot alongside them with this record.

janet.-A Continued Janet's unparalleled ascension into the pop stratosphere, giving us classic jams like "That's the Way Love Goes", "If", and the Oscar-nominated ballad "Again". Janet/JJ/TL threw everything but the kitchen sink into this record, from rock, pop and R&B to big band, scat, opera and house. Oh, and then there's that iconic album/Rolling Stone photo...

The Velvet Rope-A+ Janet's most critically-heralded album, and with good reason. It's dark, for sure, but she never opened herself up as much before or since. The sweeping melodies, on-point production and raw lyrics made this one an instant classic from the day it was released. The haunting title track, the somber mid-tempo "Got 'til it's Gone", the electronica-infused "Empty", the smooth "I Get Lonely", and the uplifting international hit "Together Again" are just some of the standout tracks.

All For You-A Janet rebounded from her blues on The Velvet Rope with this happy, sexy (and sometimes dirty) disc. I felt instant love for the title track--it was everywhere in 2001, and was the longest #1 song at radio that year for a reason. Janet was flirty, dirty, sensual ("Feels So Right" and "China Love" are great), and at times hellbent on revenge ("Son of a Gun..."). Not enough singles or videos from this album, though there are a good 3 or 4 more songs other than the singles released that would have made great singles.

Damita Jo-A Criminally underrated because of a certain "event", but one of Janet's stronger records in the new millenium. "All Nite (Don't Stop)" remains one of her best dance tracks, and the Motown-esque production on "I Want You" are tops. Babyface's "Thinkin' Bout My Ex", the and the Nelly-ish "Sexhibition" and the Europop track "SLOlove" are other standouts.

20 Y.O.- B+ Janet's second album to peak at #2 in the years since Control is given a bad rap amongst die-hards and casual fans alike. It's probably her most "street" album to date, as her boyfriend at the time, Jermaine Dupri, was given co-executive producer status, and gave Janet more of a 'hood sound. JJ/TL were on board again, giving us tracks like "Enjoy", which was foolishly overlooked as a single. It's one of the best songs on the album, and definately one of her best songs. The bedroom groove "Take Care" is another stand-out, as are the 4-on-the-floor cut "Get It Out Me" and the Brenda Russell sample-soaked sultriness of "Do It To Me".

Discipline- A- Another Janet album that was ultimately given a pretty bad rap, despite it being a very good CD. The only thing she had a hand in writing this time around was one of the interludes, which is a big reason the album doesn't get as much love, but it's still a solid effort--even great at times. The club banger "Rock With U", with its detached vocals and ambient, trippy vibe, were compared to Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" upon the album's release, and it's easy to see why. The first single, "Feedback", was Janet's return to the Hot 100 top 20 after several years of being foolishly absent, and boasted excellent production, salacious lyrics and a sassier than usual Janet. "LUV", "So Much Betta" and "What's Ur Name" are three other standout tracks from the album.

Janet was always more of a 90's artist. RN was released in the 80's, but really at the end of it and was still selling in the 90's. her first worldtour started also in the 90's. control was big, but she became this superstar in the 90's.

Like with most of Madonna's music after Bedtime Stories, it's too modern sounding for me, with the techno, current R&B, and europop style music. I can't get into it. I prefer older, traditional music. That's why the debut is my favorite, plus I bought it when it was released. I heard the Solar sound a lot so I'm familiar with it.

My all time favourite is janet. Haven't heard half of her albums so I can't rate.

I didn't rate 20 yo high, it's barely in the middle. I only put it there because it's in the equality with the other albums I hardly listened to, but I've rated it a little higher because I heard it just recently. The first half of the album doesn't get my attention but list 4-5 tracks do. I don't even know when was the last time I listened to the debut album.

But DISCIPLINE is the PERFECT modern Pop/R&B album for me.

Do you mean "rate" or rank? You are ranking the albums in order of preference, but many other people are rating them with actual letter grades.

I don't like very many songs on that album, but "2Nite" might be my favorite Janet song.. if not, it's definitely my favorite dance song.

I like "Luv" and "What's Ur Name" a lot, too. The rest is mediocre to me..

Discipline has it's great moments: Rock With U (One of my favorite Janet songs ever), Can't B Good, So Much Betta, Discipline, Feedback, Never Letchu Go, and Curtains. But the weak songs are the weakest of the weak

1814 Rhythm Nation: for the concept and ambition alone, this should be an A+, but the excessive production and the occasional filler suggest an A-
