Best P-Funk Album Tracks What are your favorite album tracks from Parliament and Funkadelic? I'm talking songs that weren't released as a single and don't appear on any greatest hits packages. Here are mine:
Unfunky UFO -- Parliament, The Mothership Connection This is an overlooked piece of genius. It combines the fantastical outer space themes of mid 1970s Parliament with the vocal swapping that has its roots in the original 1950s doo-wop group The Parliaments. The bass work is AMAZING. The story telling is great: "you got the groove and we want some." And then chorus has a call & response with George acting as the Baptist preacher.
Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo-Doo Chasers) -- Funkadelic, One Nation Under a Groove There was recently a thread about this track, so I won't go into too much detail. Needless to say, it is far out there lyrically, but it's totally coherent. And the music is great, so good that the instrumental version of it on the same album is thoroughly enjoyable.
Super Stupid -- (early) Funkadelic, Maggot Brain Early Funkadelic is almost a different group from the mid to late 70s Funkadelic (not to mention Parliament). Many of the musicians and singers are the same -- at least for awhile -- but the focus and feel are drastically different. Super Stupid is cool because it's one of P-Funk's most rocking songs. It's just an all-out, fantastic rocker.
