Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins? Both were lead singers for the band "Genesis". Which is your favorite over the other?
While I know that Peter had the more innovative and creative vids to match his creative songs in which some I do like, Phil has always been a favorite of mine.
How about you? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Gabriel is definitely my favorite of the two. He is/was much more forward-thinking in his approach. Peter was alternative, before it existed as a genre. Love his body of work. As a teenager my introduction to PG was through his Shock The Monkey video. I was awestruck at how different/odd he and his music was (same sort of things that got me interested in Prince).
As for Phil, I think he is seriously underated and undervalued... just because his approach was more pop and he was overplayed on top 40 radio. He's a top-notch drummer (if you want to hear some of his great drum work outside of Genesis, check the first two Brand X albums -- Unorthodox Behaviour and Moroccan Roll). Love his "gated drum" sound. I also enjoy how incorporated so much RnB into his solor work (EWF/Phoenix Horns were a plus). I do wish the latter Genesis albums had a more distinct difference in sound/production than Phil's solo work. They began to blend together a bit too much, IMO.

You forgot Ray Wilson.

If I wanted artistic expression and a little bit of eccentricity, Peter.
If I wanted to hear a love song or a rock song that pounded on the drums, Phil.

Peter hands down, Phil turned the band into bloated pop crap. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Did Phil have anything to do with Mike + The Mechanics? Phil is not the only person in the group. I agree. Both are great musicians, but I think Peter is more of an "artist". He also has one of my favourite songs ever..................Biko!!

Phil Collins. Apart from the album "So", which is one of my favourite 80's albums, i never really "got" Peter Gabriel's other music. We're here, might as well get into it.

Instinctively I would've thought Phil but my collection says otherwise.
Peter Gabriel - 127 songs 4 five star tracks, 8 four star tracks and five three star.
Phil Collins/Genesis - 60 songs Genesis rates 2 five star, 4 five star and 7 three star tracks. Phil Collins rates 1 five star, 4 four star and 2 three star tracks. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I prefer Phil. "Another Day In Paradise" as a song and video had such an effect on me as a child. I think it's the first music video I remember seeing ever in my life. Ever since then i've liked Phil.Great voice. I never really got into Peter. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

Peter for me based on Trespass thru The Lamb and the So records alone...
I'm a super huge fan of those above albums and that whole time period.
"That Voice Again" is what I describe as an epic vocal...the tone and delivery--godly for me.
But Phil is an amazing musician and entertainer and I enjoy him as well.
I have to be honest though, Phil's nasally little voice does grate on my nerves from time to time depending on my mood but no one can deny his drumming, songwriting and overall musicianship. He is someone I genuinely look up to and respect.

Gabriel sounds constipated to me all the time, and like he's trying like hell to do his best 'soul artist' impersonation and he's always failing.
Phil has a great voice, there's nothing nasally about it. I love the way he used to always bellow his lyrics like he was enraged or like his nuts were on fire . Gabriel doesn't even have the pipes to do something like that. 비
