Classics of the 80s

[img:$uid]http://static.rateyourmusic.com/lk/f/s/fce09d9a569952ad074b7118b1627bb1/4174290.jpg[/img:$uid]

There are lots of 80s fans here, so I thought I'd share a collaborative series of polls I'm hosting at RateYourMusic. Basically I'm hoping to compile a massive, tiered list of 80s classics, with "classic" being a measure of how well known an 80s song still is. While a lot of huge 80s hits have faded from the public's memory, other tracks have only become recognized as classics long after the fact. Every day a new poll will emerge for a nominated song and its classification will be determined by the weighted average of 4 categories after a week:

Ultimate Classic: I still hear this song often today/a random 10-year-old has a good chance to know this song

Classic: I still hear this song sometimes/a random 10-year-old has a reasonable chance to know this song

Moderate Classic: I still hear this song on occasion/a random 10-year-old has some chance to know this song
Not a Classic: I don't hear this song much if at all/a random 10-year-old likely does not know this song

If you want to participate, here is a link to the list!

You'll have to:

(1) create an account if you don't already have one, which I recommend 'cuz it's a great site that has introduced me to a lot of great stuff!

(2) click on the link above to the master list

(3) click on the poll(s) you wish to vote on!

FYI, the poll for Prince's first nominee, "When Doves Cry", starts tomorrow!

A 10 year old probably knows this

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Good choice! I think it's Classic at the very least. Care to nominate it over at RYM in this thread?

This is in a video game.

This because it was in the show Fresh Prince Of Bel-Aire

I had a friend who was totally into pop culture and he had never heard "You Dropped a Bomb on Me". I was like what? It was playing in every pizza joint with a Miss Pacman.

I think not having heard "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" is grounds for nullifying the friendship. lol
