To my FOLEY listeners:A post for you I saw a post regarding FOLEY and I thought I'd let you know an update. FOLEY is militant when it comes to releasing material. In fact his 1st album was pressed on him to be released by the label head.
FOLEY is one of the dopest guys you will talk to because he tells it like it is and humorously so. You might find him playing for RES on Bass on a tour or working sound for Prince. You just never know. He also has his own website which he updates occasionally. LOL he does the script and everything. He couldn't find a person to do it to his liking so it looks real graff'd out. In 2000, he gave his listeners a CDR because he felt like they needed to hear something else than that released album. It was mostly live from the archives. It had covers of Jackson 5,Fiona Apple,Hendrix,Miles,Led Zeppelin,Raymond Scott. He records all his live material. He did have one demo on it called "Eazy Thangs" which he said was just a audio test for his studio. He gave this cd because I responded with a post asking the question "Where is Foley?" After 200 posts he knew about the board and coincidently answered once and then never answered on the message board again. I couldn't tell you how much stuff he has vaulted away. But lets put it like this in 94 he worked on his second album and never turned it in. Hence why he doesnt play alot of new material in concerts. He is protective of his musical ideas. Since then he has alot of recorded material. He recently is working with Michael Nesmith's son "Christian Nesmith" in a power trio. His website is :http://www.smartalecmusic.com There are articles, interviews with other artists and updates and messages and artwork from Miles plus samples of tracks on the website put inside the page in wav format. Anyways I will offer up a tree of the CDR if anyone is interested of the live cd he sent called "Life without the Dat Vol.1" So put your name down 1st and will start one up. And then everybody can receive this disc. I have tree'd this CDR by request to get out to the people waiting. He wants people to hear his stuff that would surprise people to hear. He is getting ready and preparing to launch his own venture somehow. But he is just cautious with "Smart Alec Music" Recently though the Miles Box set live at Montreaux released 7 discs with Foley of 4 live concerts. Pretty cool what he does on it. He does a great version of Toto's "Don't stop now". He sounds just like Steve Lukather on it. Real crystalized toned jazz guitar sound on this track. If you are interested in this CDR post up and will get a tree going. I started one on a few newsgroups and just like everybody having this cd. P.S. Check this out:That bonus track you hear, was done in 1985 as a hommage to Miles. "The Senate" All those guitar solos you hear are made to have different personalities. Who would have guessed he would have played in the last years of Miles days. I can't tell you how much material he has. But I will say this:GET ready songs included on this CDR are: Eazy Thangs The Senate Little Davis Kashmir (Led Zeppelin) ABC (Jackson 5) You're Under Arrest (Miles) The Penguin (Raymond Scott) Voodoo Chile/Fast as you can (Hendrix/Fiona Apple) so hit me back, cats if you are interested Oh, and this isnt all he is going to tree out. Volume 2 is going to be soon when he gets time to send it. And he is rather excited for cats to hear this He sends this shit out of love for his listeners for listening and caring just a little bit or lot.

I want a copy
I wasn't blown away by the entire 7 years ago LP. But the one track that did excite me was Sept 28. Just piano, electric guitar and strings...THAT was mindblowing knowing that he came up with that after hearing the Miles died [This message was edited Sun Mar 2 18:03:19 PST 2003 by chickengrease]

Foley is one Bad Cat! I have a copy of "Live Without the Dat Vol. 1," probably from the guy that started this post (Whatda?), and it totally smokes. Everyone I play it for wants a copy and most are musicians ... that's saying A LOT! If you haven't checked his site out, please do so at: http://www.smartalecmsuic.com I cannot say enough great things about the guy. He plays bass, lead bass, drums, keys, and more I'm sure. He is also on Miles Davis' "Live Around the World" CD. Check him out so we all he more music from him.
