There are older people who grew up with the Jacksons/J5 that are separate from the later post Thriller Mike only fans. Jermaine was popular on the R&B side for awhile as well. He just didn't crossover much.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Actually Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers were the first boy band. The Jackson 5 were the Motown version of them.

I wish them well, just don't do the 2D Michael... lol

What are you talking about? No one has said anything mean in this thread, at least not yet. There's always some negative folks that will show up sooner or later though.

I'm happy for them.

My mother hates MJ's solo work, but LOVES J5. I'm sure she's not alone.

Time will tell if they will be as good as the Temptations at the rate they're going. I'm sure they'll do well, but having no Randy is inexcusable, and after all their behaviour in recent years and spending an arm and a leg on Jermaine Jackson last year, I'm done with that family except for Janet. No one is getting my money anymore, except if a good michael album or book is released.

I bet most of the tickets are being sold to two groups :

People who are fans of the entire family and grew up with their music

and...

People who believe in the hoax and think Michael is gonna show up during the concerts.

Yeah, I said it. boxed

I bet the hoax forums are having a field day with this.

The Jackson 5 were not a boy band.... they weren't.

You know, the most complicated thing about the Jackson story is that from the early '60s until they signed with Motown, they focused on adult stuff only. Motown tried to baby them or at least make them their version of The Teenagers, when that died, Motown fought to keep them sequestered but Papa Joe wouldn't have it and he wisely bounced the boys to Epic though that still led to a lawsuit. Then they weren't even allowed to play instruments on their own albums. That was one thing that bothered me about their Motown recordings. Like instead of Jermaine on the bass, you had Wilton Felder or James Jamerson. Instead of Tito on guitar you had Willie Hutch or some other guy. Instead of the other guys doing percussion at least, other guys like Eddie Brown were using percussion. And don't get me started on them not being allowed to compose. Maybe it was fate that the brothers' careers turned out the way it did I don't know...

But yeah I don't agree about them being a "boy band" either. Like I said the original boy band was Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers. The J5 didn't quite play the Motown card right in that they were too proud to be too much like the Teenagers that they all had minds of their own. That's why their Motown tenure was as short-lived as it was.

i don't know why they couldn't have done this while mj was alive instead of trying to guilt him into 'family reunion' concerts.

i don't care for them w/o mike, but i hope they do well.

LMAO dren! I forgot about that, I used to wonder too about the mj image at Cirque Du Soilel and whether believers would have a field day, and I myself would joke he's "touring" without being bothered if alive lol Hey, I had to make up shit in my head to laugh through the day or I would have gone crazy

I know if he's not coming back in 2012, he's never coming back. No, I'm not a believer although I don't think I would bat an eye either if he pulled it off, and if he did, I don't think he would come back, too risky.

And there are fans like me who like MJ from Big Boy to present material, including with the J5 who would have gone, but is turned off by the group's behaviour.

Yeah. Many Michael solo fans tend to overlook that. But then again, shows in LA and Vegas always sell well.

...there you have it. A reunion tour without Michael, the center of the band, didn't make much sense and obviously they wanted to tour but held out for Michael to change his mind. Can't blame them.

how would that have worked? long as mj was alive there was no reunion without him. i wouldnt call it trying to 'guilt' him, they wanted to tour and he was the unquestionable leader of the group. performing was all they knew so they held out hope their brother/leader would get back on stage with them.i never understood why mj fans found it so terrible that his brothers wanted him to tour,in hindsight it probably would have been the best thing for him to do.

Hmm, well... because they are stupid and shortsighted. His return to performing would have been so much easier had he done something with his brothers beforehand.

LOL, I tell ya sis...I will take old over dirt-nap any day, lol

Anyhoo, some of the younglings forget that the Jackson Five were much beloved young men that we grew up with in the olden days. This was way before all the rumors and scandals they became known for in adulthood through the internet...there was no internet! lol
