Just Getting into GOTYE - any fans?

Saw him on SNL and the two songs on there was enough to get me to buy the CD... I really like his style of musichttp://news.yahoo.com/col...itics.html. It's slightly derivative of something... but I cannot put a finger on it.

Any fans out there?

YES! He is awaesome. Great lyrics and melodies. A little Sting early Police-esque...but not totally.

Being a fan of the "multi-guys" (Sir Paul, Stevie, Sly, P, etc) I decided to check this guy out. I actually dig some of his stuff. The vibe I get is Sting with a little Radiohead in there.

I plan on getting his CD hopefully this weekend. His stuff pretty cool if you want to check out something new and different.

I only know the one song that's being played into infinity right now.

But I adore this song and the club mix.

The lyrics are painfully beautiful

Somebody That I Used To Know"
(feat. Kimbra)

[Gotye:]
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and I feel so rough
No you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

[Kimbra:]
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
Part of me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know

[Gotye:]
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and I feel so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

[x2]
Somebody
(I used to know)
Somebody
(Now you're just somebody that I used to know)

(I used to know)
(That I used to know)
(I used to know)
Somebody
I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. rose

Really satisfying new album... I hear the Sting and Peter Gabriel comparisons, but there are also a few tracks where he sounds like the lead singer from Go West (and the arrangements do, too.) Some pretty solid stuff on this record!

GO WEST - nice comparison!

Yep - I am really enjoying this album and look forward to more from him.

I like this one a lot:

Anyone's that owned an old organ with hidden synthesizer features that the wide public knows nothing about knows what this song is about.

Three albums; Boardface, Like Drawing Blood and Making Mirrors (plus a remix album for LDB but the name of it escapes me at the moment). biggrin

Too eccentric for my taste. I don't care for odd/abstract pop stars.

Their "live" show was incredibly dull and amateurish. I didn't know he/they had that many albums. I thought that from their weak ass show this was their debut album.

I saw them at Coachella. I went both weekends. They were pretty bad the first weekend but I went back the second time because I thought maybe it was just the outdoor venue or something but their sound just did not translate well live. To my ears anyway. I left their set the second weekend after they butchered "State of the Art."
