Tupac Hologram Performs @ Coachella 2012

April 16, 2012

Link

Rapper Tupac joined Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg on stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival Sunday.

Yes, you read that right. The rapper, who died in 1996, was brought to life as a hologram to perform his hits, “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.”

Thanks to technology, the hologram even greeted the crowd with a “What’s up Coachella?”

Jeans sagging and bare chested, the hologram may have freaked out some in the audience. One concertgoer wrote on Twitter: “This place just went silent. People are genuinely horrified by the Tupac hologram.”

eek Wonder if they'll have Michael Jackson "show up" at this event next year. hmmm I also wonder if this will start a trend with both dead AND living singers.

So now even celebrities who are alive wont necessarily have to show up for concerts or events—just have their hologram show up and perform for them. People might not be able to tell the difference. I blame Jem & the Holograms for this!

spit This reminds me of that movie about surrogates. This is kind of scary though, but at the same time, alive celebs could get paid double or even triple for concert dates booked on the same date. Oh great, so now we have to go to concerts wondering if we will see the real deal or just the hologram. nuts Things will go insane if they do a MJ one. And let's not get started on Marvin Gaye and Jimi Hendrix showing up to sell out concerts. Eddie Kendrix and David Ruffin back together in concert. Richie Valens, The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly: "Rock 'n Roll is alive and kicking, LITERALLY!!!!" tour. disbelief

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

That is just plain weird.

And I think this youtube comment says it all:

2Pac: Aye Dre.

Dr. Dre: What up, Pac?

2Pac: Have you and Snoop found yourselves another opportunity to make money off my name?

Dr. Dre:...

Snoop Dogg: Nah Pac, it ain't like that.

2Pac: Snoop, go get something to eat, nobody asked you. How about that Detox, Dre? When will it hit stores?

Dr. Dre:...

Tupac springs back to life at Coachella

tupac-hologram.JPG

Tupac was at Coachella ... in a way.

We've come a long way from Princess Leia's "Star Wars" message and Michael Jackson stepping out of the screen in "Captain EO."

Tupac Shakur seemingly reentered existence last night at Coachella. And the whole thing was pretty convincing, thanks to a carefully imagined hologram.

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg were on the bill at the music festival, in Indio, Calif., where Eminem made a guest appearance, but it was Shakur's that had everyone talking. A fair share of the U.S. and worldwide Twitter trends last night were devoted to the set, headed by "That Tupac ..." as in "That Tupac hologram is so real it's scary."

"What the f--k is up, Coachella!" the late rapper's hologram bellowed, looking very himself in jeans, boots, a cross and no shirt. Shakur went on to perform an entire song — "Hail Mary" — before launching into a duet with Snoop, who seemed careful to not step too close to the projection of his old friend. (Was he as freaked out as everyone else?)

Snoop and the hologram-Pac teamed up for "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" — with its iconic chorus "Ain't nothin' but a gangsta party" — a song released in 1996, the year Shakur was shot and killed. The hologram strutted and danced on the stage alongside Snoop before throwing up a peace sign. He then bowed his head and exploded into what looked like fairy dust.

TUPAC'S MOM Coachella Hologram Was Frickin' AMAZING

EXCLUSIVE

Afeni and Tupac Shakur
Tupac
's famously protective mother Afeni Shakur agrees with the rest of the planet -- the rapper's resurrection at Coachella this weekend ... in the form of an incredibly lifelike hologram ... was mind-blowingly awesome.

A rep for Afeni tells TMZ, she was absolutely positively THRILLED with Tupac's virtual performance -- when he appeared alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg during the headlining show at Coachella last night ... walking back and forth across the stage like he was actually present.

Afeni didn't attend the performance -- but we're told she watched it unfold live on the Internet ... but while it was thrilling, the entire experience was bittersweet.

The rep says Dr. Dre asked Afeni for approval to incorporate Pac into his performance -- and she said yes. As a thank you, we're told Dre made a donation to the rapper's charity ... The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.

TMZ also spoke with Dre's crewmate Daz Dillinger -- who tells us, Nate Dogg was originally supposed to appear as a hologram as well, but the decision was made at the last minute not to use him. Nate got a video tribute instead.
