Jill Scott Kicking Off New Season of VH1 Storytellers [img:$uid]http://i43.tinypic.com/dvgg49.jpg[/img:$uid]
April 09, 2012
VH1 Storytellers returns this spring, and Jill Scott will kick off the show's 16th season with a new episode on May 21.
Continuing in the Storytellers tradition, Jill will take the stage for a performance of some of her most popular and heartfelt songs. She'll also give audience members and at-home viewers a sneak-peek into who she is when she shares intimate stories from her life.
"Our audience is hungry for the kind of deeper musical experience and connection to artists that Storytellers brings," VH1 president Tom Calderone says in a statement. " That connection has cemented the series' status as a jewel of the entertainment world where artists intimately share their music and the often revealing and poignant stories behind their songs."
Previous Storytellers performers have included Kanye West, Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z, among others.

This should be good. It's a great setting for her. Do they sell this series like MTV used to sell their "Unplugged" series?

Jill Scott Puts On One-Woman Show for VH1 Storytellers May 09, 2012
Jill Scott ran through five costume changes during the Tuesday night taping of her installment of VH1 Storytellers in New York City. For the first time in Storytellers history, Jill delivered her performance cabaret style, taking the stage at Hammerstein Ballroom as one of a handful of characters that she'd portray during the VH1 taping.
The Philly native donned a flowing red wig and ripped jeans to kick off her one-woman show. She took a telephone call on stage, laying down the law to someone trying to get between her and the man who she explained to the caller "was BORN to be my man." The fiery monologue segued into Jill's performance of "Gettin' in the Way," the first single from her debut album, released in 2000.
Before the night was over, Jill played an uptight, bookish type whose romance with a rough-around-the-edges guy could only be explained by a passionate rendition of "Come See Me."
She talked about her father before launching into a performance of "The Fact Is (I Need You)." There were more wigs and more stories, interwoven with songs including "He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat)," "Quick" and "Crown Royal," all backed by a full band.
Also during the taping, Jill revealed that she was just days from graduating from Temple University. The Grammy winner attended the school before her rise to fame, and she'll deliver the keynote address to the College of Education on Thursday.
Jill, who is set to appear in a remake of the classic movie Steel Magnolias, shouted out her castmate Condola Rashad, who was in the audience at the taping.
Jill's performance is set to air May 21, and will kick off the new season of VH1 Storytellers.

VH1 "Blessed" with Ratings for Jill Scott's "VH1 Storytellers" May 24, 2012
Jill Scott’s talking and VH1 viewers are listening.
The 16th season kickoff of VH1 Storytellers with Jill Scott scored the highest rating for the franchise since Bon Jovi’s edition in 2000.
The show averaged a .5 in the P18-49 demo with 723,000 total viewers during Monday night’s 11PM premiere. The premiere also ranked #1 in the franchise’s history among Women 18-49 impressions, averaging 463,000.
Additionally, Jill’s "VH1 Storytellers" performance proved hot on social media as #Storytellers trended number one on Twitter in the U.S. and World Wide for almost the entire, hour-long show. Also, the show tallied nine other trending topics during the premiere and continued to build social chatter with multiple trending topics during repeat airings. Finally, SocialGuide reports it was the #7 most social (non-sports) cable show of the night.
Performing before a packed house at the Hammerstein Grand Ballroom in NYC, Jill added a truly narrative spin to her "VH1 Storytellers" by acting out different characters to illustrate some of the influences behind her beloved music.
Highlighting the many different roles women take on in their lives, Scott portrayed a "Round the Way Girl," a bride-to-be, an intellectual and more. Her hour-long episode featured Scott performing a selection of hits including "Come See Me," "Golden," and "Blessed" from her new album "The Light of the Sun."

As much as I love Jill...I would've loved if she did a full version of "He Loves Me"....I had dvr'd it, and so far, I'm not impressed. I saw her in concert a few years back and I left empty. I think she does her best work on record. I appreciate she's deep. But in concert, she leaves me underwhelmed. If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Like some of her stuff tho' I would slightly concur. I've never saw her live, but this special kind've left me cold. There were some good moments, but it left more to be desired. Let's pray we'll get a DVD version of Experience: Jill Scott 826+ and possibly an unedited StoryTellers performance soon! Check me out and add me on:
