I like him. And he totally killed it on Jimmy Fallon doing "Dancing in the Dark" - I'll never hear that song the same again, period.

Not a fan, but I tend to avoid his work. I shudder to think what he could've done to "Dancing in the Dark"...

Kind of a lounge-y version. What was it about the performance that impressed you?

I like the tone of his voice when he sings. I used to listen to Once Again a lot. I like just about every song on there - PDA, Show Me, Coming Home, Maxine, Save Room. But his next albume Evolver disappointed me.

When I think of John Legend I want to draw comparisons to Elton John, who also plays piano, writes music, and put on a great and flamboyant performance in his heyday- but I cant. So I then think about Lionel Richie who also plays piano, writes his own music, sings well and had a star like aura when he performed-but I cant. Maybe Billy Joel, who also Plays piano , sings pretty good and has written a lot of great music-but I can't. Ahh! Maybe I can comepare him to Stevie Wonder who also Plays piano, writes his own music ,puts on a great show, sings great and has more grammys than I do fingers- BUT I CAN'T! And I can draw the same conclusions with Little Richard, Leon Russel Freddie Murcury and even Prince. Sorry John Legend but I have to conclude that when it comes to the "great ones", You currently don't compare maybe in another ten years things will change......

+ 1 he really killed it. Still don't like his voice he sounds like a voiceover type singer, if that word exist.

I certainly would not spend any money on his recordings but I kind of liked his take on this song:

It's not the greatest thing ever but I liked it and I am in no way a fan. Listen to the first ten seconds or so and see if it grabs you.

His 2 first albums are great but Evolver sucked big time. Problem with John Legend is that he doesnt try to be contemporary and that's why people think of him as boring or not talented, but he has done some really good r&b songs these past 10 yrs, better than other r&b artists from the 00's. Lets remember that the r&b scene has been pretty vacant the past 12 yrs or so. Why do people need to compare artists all the time tho? I mean isnt it better to look at every individual seperatley ? I think that he needs to hook up with The Roots or Kanye West for his new album, because when he mixes his marvin gaye/stevie wonder inspiration and hiphop is when he shines the best.

I just think this take is much more powerful - it takes an electro-rock song and makes it jazzy and bluesy. I love his phrasing and to me his voice is pretty strong on this performance.

I think his first 2 albums are good. Plus he's fine as hell. I wouldn't stop him from crooning as loungey as he wants to me!

Yeah, I was hoping for something like that when I went to see him live because I did like some of his songs--but it just didn't happen...

Can't do it. When his voice starts warbling, it sounds like a sea creature, seal, walrus, something to that effect. boxed He looks like a care bear in person too.
