Is John Legend really all that talented?

Cause I just don't see it. I think he's been forced on us by the media because like Alicia "homewrecker" Keys, it is a novelty that he plays an instrument.

I was not that impressed with him when he opened for Sade. In fact, I was disappointed. Seems like he was wooden and mechanical, slightly mocking to the audience (which was only half full ubtil Sade came on) as if he was too good to be an opening act for them. The audience's response seemed lukewarm. John is only a Legend in his own mind. rolleyes

I dont think their is anything special about him but he does have descent music. His first two albums were pretty good. His not much of a performer and I dont know if he writes his own music. I do appreciate the fact that he tries to gear towards a more adult audience and not make pop music.

Nobody hardly hypes legend up nor does he receive alot of awards to be consider overrated.

I don't know whether he's really talented or not. But I am completely indifferent to his product - and I say that having both listened to recordings and seen him live. shrug

And apparently his management team or whoever thinks he's the next Marvin Gaye because he was handpicked to perform at the Kennedy Center 40 years to the day Marvin performed there. neutral He's gonna perform in May.

LOL homewrecker. I didn't get it either when he came out, he seemed like such a simpleton. But I loved the song he did with Kanye though it was about promising to never cheat and had a church like beat. I think I love Kanye as a producer that's why (shut up) and some other slow song. John has a big ego though overall....and who the fuck has a name like his with a straight face? John Lennon he is not.

He's alright in my book. He's nothing groundbreaking or anything, but he does have his moments. They basically put John out there same way they put Alicia Keys out there. He, along with her, became this overhyped phenomenom and wasn't merely the second coming of anything.

I'd rather listen to him than some of these knuckle-heads in this mainstream/adult-contemporary R&B realm today. Plus, how can you resist that "you-know-what" he has on him?

I own Once Again, and I think it's a very good album. "PDA" is a classic song.

I don't recall him ever being overhyped. I'd never heard of him, or any of his songs until a friend played his music for me. Still, I don't know any song besides the ones on the album I own, and I rarely hear him talked about.

Wow I though I was the only getting that vibe off him. He comes off like he is too good to be on the stage performing for us peons.

He seemed a little better with the Roots. So maybe he should be sideman.

He has a decent voice and he's very nice to look at. But, his music? I don't know. It's not bad but it's not great either. I've heard nothing from him that has moved me.

The only thing I'll remember him by is through his duet with Ms.Hill and the fact that he played in Miseducation.

I wanted to check EVERYBODY who worked in that album, just because they have that association.

Yes, he was supposed to be the male Alicia Keys, and simutaneously fill the void left by the equally boring Brian McKnight.

It quite didn't work out either as we all know.

Dude has talent but I'm still trying 2 figure out how he got a record deal. I like his unreleased John Stephens project better than any of his released material.
