Hall & Oates should be in the Hall of Fame

31 Top 40 hits, 6 #1 hits(7 if you count writing "Everytime You Go Away.") Yet Daryl Hall & John Oates are NOT in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. The Beastie Boys, The Ramones, and The Pretenders are all in the Hall of Fame, and those THREE ...groups combined for 16 Top 40 hits, and only one #1. This is a complete outrage. Sara Smile hit #4 back in 75, but has the continued airplay of a #1. The #1 songs: Rich Girl, Kiss On My List, Private Eyes, I Can't Go For That(No Can Do), Maneater, Out of Touch.
Other big hits: You Make My Dreams, Say It Isn't So, One On One, Did It In A Minute, and So Close.
They had Top 40 hits covering 3 decades from 1975 to 1990. Yes, I admit that Top 40 hits and #1 songs should not be the only criteria for being in the Hall, but the mass numbers of hits should be overwhelming support. They did have a Prince like obsession for releasing far too many albums, releasing 14(including 2 solo Hall) from 1972-1986, not even counting their Greatest Hits album that had 2 new songs that were both Top 10 hits(Say It Isn't So, Adult Education.)
If you look at songwriting skills, the sheer talent of Daryl Hall's voice, and the volume of great songs, it should be a no-brainer. Had they simply cut back on album releases, maybe cutting back to around 9 albums from 72-86, they would've dropped the stigma of being a "Singles Band." H2O, Private Eyes, obviously Voices, and their self-titled album show they could make great albums.

Amen to that! Hall & Oates helped define pop music in the late 70s and early 80s

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

How many hits an act has is not a criteria. It's whether Jann Wenner and his associates dig their music or the act as people. Jann had himself inducted, and he doesn't have anything to do with music. He just runs a magazine, so that tells you what it's all about. lol

Doesn't matter, the Rolling Stone staff probably doesn't take them seriously. Percy Sledge only has one big pop hit and he's in. Getting into a museum is not really what Rock N' Roll is about anyway. Rock was about rebellion . It's like Mick Jagger getting a "Sir" title. Keith Richards would never accept anything like that. The Beatles got MBE's, but John later returned his. The Hall Of Fame is like a high school thing, "I don't like you, and you're not cool, so you can't hang out with me". lol So I don't know why people make a big deal of who's in or who's not.

Good Point, it is a pointless honor, but still, it is a nice little trophy of recognition. I started the post to see what orger opinion was on the matter. So Mick, if you had the deciding vote, would Hall & Oates get in?

Doesn't make any difference to me. I'm not going to Cleveland, Ohio. lol But I can still listen to their records.

The Hall of Fame's just a big joke anyway. I see no purpose for them to be inducted. There just one of the many important and amazing artists who aren't in it
