That sounds right to me. Bobby was very much the most popular member of the group even w/ Ralph as lead, so them just pushing him out over drugs sounds a bit too simplistic. As I said earlier, Bobby was on a star trip too and almost certainly wanted out. His acting out on stage was about him wanting to hog the attention...and it worked.

After they kicked out Bobby, they did that quartet thing for a hot minute and they quickly figured out it wouldn't work (OK, I dig Earth Angel and Count Me Out...sue me ) so they got Johnny Gill. NE sang better overall than Bobby, but they didn't have his full on charisma. Getting rid of Bobby took most of their sparkle away...even tho they were still fly as hale in the New Jack era.

You know, the biggest mystery to me was why Bobby basically became a house hubby after marrying Whitney?! He was like some woman who married the super rich boss. His career was going fine and then one day it just seems he lost interst or something. He was still very popular. I just don't get that one.

He didn't lose interest in his music, the public did. That man was/is desperate for popularity and accolades for being the "king" of nothing, all because of the success of only one album. Once his third record failed and essentially ended his career, every time he and Whitney were recorded somewhere together, usually for some event regarding her work, he always had to be in the way by doing or saying something stupid near Whitney in front of the camera or by talking about himself, in attempt to sway attention away from her. The Diane Sawyer interview and the behind-the-scenes video for the photoshoot for her Greatest Hits DVD shows excellent examples of what I'm talking about. House husbands stay quiet in a corner somewhere, holding their wives' coats or drinks or something. This loser was obnoxious and invasive. The real house spouse in that relationship was actually Whitney, 'cause she tolerated and even at times supported his behavior, just to love and soothe his unwarranted ego.

Well that's not entirely true lol Bobby did stop all of a sudden. Also I think his drug addiction and alcoholism definitely made it impossible for him to do anything plus Whitney was making the money so he basically stopped. Bobby got his head back when he and Whitney divorced her because he's been touring more often.

Yeah Whitney said to Oprah around the time she did that movie is when she stopped caring about show business. And started to overindulge. She was already using drugs when she did "Preacher's" but it became an addiction afterwards.

Damn shame. I just think they (read Clive) tried to push her so hard into being something she wasn't, that the woman just couldn't deal after a certain point. Whitney was many things, but an actress she wasn't.

Yeah I remember readin an interview she gave during the time The Bodyguard Tour was going on for Rolling Stone and she mentioned how "it just wasn't fun anymore" because she had been in the business since she was 11. Plus I think she knew she couldn't top what she did with "The Bodyguard" and anything prior to it and protested to no avail to let her have time to herself and she couldn't. She was still overworked at the time of her death. No one wanted to give her space.

Yeah, I can only imagine how much pressure she was under after "The Bodyguard".

It must be said that even tho these two were addicted, they DID seem committed to having some sort of family life, at least for a time.

I would have been pissed to. But back then it wasn't the first time she did that. It should have been expected.
