Teena Marie - The Black Rain album For those of you who have heard it, what do you think? And who is she duetting with on Butterflies?? It's been driving me nuts for years. He has an awesome voice!
Tracks from the album were eventually released on La Dona, Sapphire and Congo Square but there are still about 7 or 8 songs that were never officially released. "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

From the tracks she included on La Dona, it seemed like it was going to be a great project. Never knew that she eventually released some of the tracks on Sapphire and Congo Square. Wonder if we will ever get it to be released in full. Check me out and add me on:

"Butterflies" is with Pretty Terry of the Polyester Players, an LA Band known for being on point with the LIVE funk. I agree, it smokes, and has some beautiful lyrics. I think it should have been included on LaDonna over "A Rose..." Pretty Terry was murdered in between the time this was recorded and LaDonna came out.
Blackberri Player is my best Lady T song of all, for right now. I am also really feeling 1999.
I favor "The Macking Game" on BR instrumentally, but Medusa rocks TMG on LaDonna like a hurricane.
It's hard not to make a direct comparison to LaDonna, for me. Some of the inclusions on LaDonna, like "Hit Me Where I Live," "I Got You," "High Yellow Girl" and "Recycle Hate To Love" make it fly higher than BR.
Funny that you post this, I just put BR back in my car player yesterday.

SoulAlive said: I never heard this album.I always assumed that it just evolved into La Dona. Same thing I'm saying. I always thought she scrapped the entire project and used some of the songs on La Dona instead. Check me out and add me on:

Yep. There may have been more than one version of a Black Rain bootleg. I don't have a "High Yellow Girl (Alternate vocal)," "Secret G" or "Strokin" on mine.
There is a whole record (r and b) in the can, just needs mixing, per Teena before she passed. Alia referred to the album name as "Beautiful" shortly after her mom died. Teena also said she had some work going on a Gospel record and a Jazz record.

She also samples the Jackson's "Dance Machine" on "Beautiful".
