I liked the episode but to do an Unsung on David Ruffin deserves more than one hour. I cant believe he came from a town called 'WhyNot, Mississippi'.
Why didnt they interview his brother Jimmy Ruffin? Who certainly could have gave more insight in David's upbringing.
What about Berry Gordy? or Dean Martin's daughter Barbara? I know Berry Gordy turned TvOne downed.
Why omit Michael Jackson paid for his funeral?
Did he lieave a will was there an estate? I know dumb question
Why come there hasnt been a thread about who was the best lead Temptations singer Dennis Edwards or David Ruffin?
I still dont believe he died in the hospital I believe he died in a crackhouse and his body was dumped in front of the hospital.
David Ruffin Jr. -->>>HOT
That's because he did die in a crack house but hey I can understand why his son or his children have a hard time dealing with that.
The made for TV movie, I don't understand the uproar hell it was was sugarcoated too. If they had told really been truthful, that movie would've never made it to TV. Unsung glossed over the Temptations' Reunion drama. Ruffin wasn't the only Temp ego trippin the whole damn group was, their Chicago stop on the tour was a hot mess.

DAVID RUFFIN DID DIE IN A HOSPITAL BECAUSE I REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS REPORTED ON TELEVISION THAT HE WAS BROUGHT IN ON A DRUG RELATED PROBLEM, AT THE POINT HE WAS STILL ALIVE. |

Why are you screaming jackson? Take a deep breath.
I remember the report as will he was doa when his "friends" rushed him to the hospital; the doctors were unsuccessful in reviving Ruffin. As I said I can see kinda of why his children or his son have an issue with this. But less get real the man died getting high... its not pretty but its the truth. |

You know, it funny how people question who and where David died, but they never seemed to question the circumstances surrounding Paul's death. There is evidence that he was murdered, (even though he was right-handed he was shot on the left hand side of the head, the fact that he owed money to allot of people and that he had a misstress who's husband had found out about her and Paul's affair.) Everybody just takes it for granted that he killed himself. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth" |

I wrote about it a few pages back. I don't think he killed himself. He was about to start his solo career - with Eddie Kendricks producing him - when he died. I definitely think his mistress' husband shot him. |

I knew something was fishy when I read about where the gun was located. In order for you to kill yourself, the gun will have to be in the hand where you shot yourself at. You can't shoot yourself in the right if your gun is in your left hand or vice versa. |

Now I know that it wasn't express in the movie, but did Otis mention it in his book?
Been awhile since I read it |

Hmm, you might need to read it to find out if he mentioned that he felt Paul was murdered because that sure wasn't mentioned in the film. The Tempts' story was like a musical soap opera. |

Side topic: Was the Tempts' 1971 single, "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)" really about David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks? I've read so many reports about the recording of this single and the controversy behind it after its release... [Edited 3/8/12 14:13pm]

Allegedly it was. Barrett Strong apparently wrote the song after hearing conversation shared by Otis and Melvin about how stardom had "changed" David and Eddie. So he wrote the lyrics and Norman the music. Ironically David Ruffin covered the song in 1974. |

Also, Eddie Kendricks, in "Keep On Truckin'" said this:

Plus I bet David covered the song to talk back at the Tempts' asses. Speaking of the Temptations actually were among the first acts to have samples in their music:
Norman sampled the intro to "Can't Get Next to You" for "Psychedelic Shack" while David Ruffin sampled parts of the live crowd used for Marvin's 1974 live album for his bluesy version of "Superstar". |
