Opinions about Diana Ross I was talking to a friend last night and we started talking about Diana and the Supremes-don't ask me why but that's were the conversation went. Anyway, I was telling her as a kid in Detroit folks would talk about how nasty Diana was to Florence and how Florence basically died broke which was a damn shame! I was telling my friend that I've noticed over the years that folks really don't talk about Diana or give her props like they do other aging musical stars and my friend said it's cuz she's been a bitch to so many people over her career What's ur opinion? Do you think Diana has burned alot of bridges?

Damn guess folks don't wanna touch Diana with a ten-foot pole

I don't think she's burned bridges. But why talk about her? She's retired from entertaining. It was a job. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Not gossiping and I know she's retired=just wondering why people never really mention her

I think Diana gets a bad rap. I don't think she was as much of a bitch as people have tried to make her out to be. I think people have a tendency to equate being driven with being bitchy. She did her thing and she did it well. I love Diana and might I add, she made some funky ass music!

Diana ain't burned no bridges. People don't respect someone who was just out there making that money. Flo's failure was not due to Diana. Flo had some shady ass motherfuckers that took her money and didn't help her to get out of her addiction or at least helped her LIFE.
I'm looking at you MARY WILSON.

So you say she was just driven to be successful and just wasn't being a bitch Some think Diva =Bitch I don't know cuz like I said growing up in Detroit folks never really talked about her alot and when they did it wasn't nice.

She definitely doesn't get the props other artist of her time do. But, I don't know much about her alledged bitch-ways.
I did like her as Billie in "Lady Sings the Blues." Her performance and musical covers, were enough for me to overlook the bad script.

Damn-never really gave a shit to read up on the supremes. So Mary was a trip too?

She's a goddess. She's that bitch. "Climb in my fur."

No she doesn't get the accolades so that's why I'm wondering if folks in the music industry dislike her or she is just kinda left alone. Lady Sings The Blues was a great movie-Diana, Billy and Richard were very good in the movie.

I didn't mean gossiping just that she's no longer a public persona. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

When It cames down to ity either you love her music or you don't. There will always be gossip, but the music stands for itself. I'm a fan. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

Diana's fantastic! She's made her way and still keeps truckin'. In fact, she's been doing well w/ live acts and tours in recent years. IOW, she's gathered no moss!

Maybe because she's so forgettable? Think about it, she's just a product of the Motown production line. I give her props for her diva attitude though. That's what pple remember about her.
Btw, did she ever write or produce her own songs? ~Time Spent Learning is a Time Never Wasted~
~They say the skies the limit And to me that's really true But my friend you have seen nothing Just wait till I get through~

What does that have to do with anything? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Because Stevie is remembered for his contribution to music. Diana is remembered for her clothes and BIG ASS HAIR (well in my generation anyways). ~Time Spent Learning is a Time Never Wasted~

My opinion of Miss Ross? Class Act, Star, ICON, An original Diva. Beautiful. Talented. Smart.

Diana Ross is the ultimate diva....a smart,determined,talented,career-driven woman who knows exactly what she wants and how to get it.When a woman is like that, some people call her a "bitch" but you don't get to the top without having those strong qualities.

Diane Ross is not resepected by her peers very much. She did do Florence Ballard wrong, and Mary Wilson too. She slept her way to the top, first with Berry Gordy and then with lots of Caucasian men. I know lots of very unpleasant Diane Ross encounters with producers, songwriters and musicians. Must be something in the water with Detroit raised divas: Aretha Franklin and Anita Baker come to mind. BTW for thise that she retired, not so, she is recording a new album as we speak, and Mary J. Blige has written 4 songs for the album. Ross is not the only diva b-word: Babs, Madonna, Aretha, Anita, Chaka, Patti LaBelle and Mikki Howard all have big reputations for being nasty. Ross demands that everyone call her Miss Ross. Even Patti Labelle has a Ross problem.

If that's the case, I wonder what that kid from Indiana saw in her then

Yeah, I heard she turned out the King of Pop.

I beg to differ... Diana did not become romantically involved with Berry Gordy until after the Supremes had already had several number one hits. The "caucasian men" that Diana was married to and/or had affairs with (Gene Simmons, Ryan O'Neil...) did not help her get to the top.
And the Ms Ross thing- I don't see why wanting to be treated with respect by your employees or strangers is such a bad thing. Just like the white winged dove...

Diana is definitely driven and ambitious, knew what she wanted and went after it without letting anyone get in her way. I can respect that. But I also think that she's just an "ok" singer and overrated. At the same time, I can't sit up here and say that she hasn't earn her right to be respected as a legend. Sure I like a few of her songs, but she's not one of my favorite artists. As far as her being a "bitch" goes, well can't say for sure if she is or isn't because I haven't met her personally, however, anytime a woman goes after what she wants to get ahead, she's ALWAYS going to be labeled as being a "bitch" regardless. [Edited 3/6/12 5:17am] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
