Didn't the legendary exercising health nut Jack LaLanne die of a heart attack (he was over 90 but still)?

Well look at the Great John Ritter, i mean he was just 55 when he died in 2004, literally left the set of his show and thought he had the flu, admitted to the hosptial and then was dead that night, you just really never know, John of course had an un-detected heart malfunction that was never diagnosed because docs at the time werent looking for it.

I remmeber watching episodes of The Monkees after school as a kid. It was pretty silly, but then again the songwriting was absolutely top notch. I remember seeing a documentary about the creation of The Monkees, both the band and the TV show, and of how the only member of the band who had any extensive musical experience prior to the show was Michael Nesmith. But they had Neil Diamond, Harry Nillson, Stephen Stills, Glen Campbell, Carole King and Neil Young writing songs for them, and as the show went on they all got really serious about writing their own songs and playing their own instruments. They became quite a polished band by the time the show ended.

RIP Davy Jones. You will be sorely missed. sad pray rose dove music tv typing

FROM MICKY:
I am in a state of shock; Davy and I grew up together and shared in the unique success of what became The Monkees phenomena. The time we worked together and had together is something I'll never forget. He was the brother I never had and this leaves a gigantic hole in my heart. The memories have and will last a lifetime. My condolences go out to his family.

FROM PETER:
It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones.

His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. My deepest sympathy to Jessica and the rest of his family.

Adios, to the Manchester Cowboy.

Peace and love, Peter T.

FROM MIKE:
All the lovely people. Where do they all come from?

So many lovely and heartfelt messages of condolence and sympathy, I don’t know what to say, except my sincere thank you to all. I share and appreciate your feelings.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

While it is jarring, and sometimes seems unjust, or strange, this transition we call dying and death is a constant in the mortal experience that we know almost nothing about. I am of the mind that it is a transition and I carry with me a certainty of the continuity of existence. While I don’t exactly know what happens in these times, there is an ongoing sense of life that reaches in my mind out far beyond the near horizons of mortality and into the reaches of infinity.

That David has stepped beyond my view causes me the sadness that it does many of you. I will miss him, but I won’t abandon him to mortality. I will think of him as existing within the animating life that insures existence. I will think of him and his family with that gentle regard in spite of all the contrary appearances on the mortal plane.

David’s spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us.

I have fond memories. I wish him safe travels.

Interesting to see the love for the monkees come out. I wonder how many of us actually bought their albums? For me the monkees were a TV show from my childhood.

But I do like their hits

While I never bought any of their albums (other than the greatest hits a few years ago), I still have this 45. Bought it in 1986/87 when i was in 7th grade.

Anyone remember why it was re-released? I remember it being a hit again in the 80s...

I don't know why, but I remember a lot of my friends listening to the monkees around this time. So there must have been some push

They actually created a NEW Monkees show in the 80s as well, and my friend's dad was a producer for it. shake

my friends are actually in this awful video lol

ooof...I dont remember the NEW Monkees (yikes!), but I distinctly remember watching the MTV video countdown and "Daydream Believer" was on it (that's why I bought the single). And I remember watching the Monkees on MTV every day...I think it was in the morning before school. They were HOT in 86/87, for some strange reason.

Now that I think about it, their best of "Then and Now" album must have come out then.

yeah the new monkees thing was the chance to cash in on the resurgence and interest in the band, that we often see with anything else. Then and Now was taking off, and they had a Top20 single, appearances together etc....

I have always thought they were a good little group, they often get slighted because they didnt play on the early records, because they mostly were a "production" so they never got any respect, they were just viewed as being lucky to get the gig and given songs. Its very sad because under this scrutiny you would lose 95% of the music busines today. But as time went on they did write and play on alot of the hits and albums. They are some great songs in their catalog, to me gems like "Randy Scouse Git" which Mickey wrote at a party for the SGT PEPPER album with the Beatles, and also "Valleri" these songs showed that they also were influenced by the times they were in and could create themselves too. My guess is now that they will find themselves on the RNR ballot, something that Peter Tork was once quoted as saying "i dont know if we deserve it or not, but there are people on the committee that dont even want us to have a shot, that we know" he also cited this was in response that they werent playing early on just singing, but as he said "alot of people did that then" very sad that their accolades now will come after death

I feel bad for Davy. Very sorry to hear this about his passing.

I was never an avid listener of his music, but I remember first hearing about Davy specifically while watching the "Brady Bunch" movie. I also had a friend growing up that loved the Monkees and would always watch their televison show so I was always aware of who The Monkees were from a young age. Again, i'm not too familiar with his music apart from "Daydream Believer" and "I'm a Believer" which I think are great songs, but I've always known of him and respected him.

66 is still young. How sad sad .
