Oh, memories... I am on the above picture. That was the day after he announced the O2 shows. The last time I saw him. What you see here though is only the inside... here is what it looked on the outside... and that's only a fraction of the people who were there:

And that was really wherever he went.

And finally as fans, I think we have to expect that while it *may* chart in the top 100 it won't be a number 1 smash. I'll be happy if it is, but to expect to it be is unrealistic. Rarely, if ever, do re-releases or anniversary editions chart well. Of course some fans will blame Sony or The Estate no matter what they release, but I think we need to be realistic here.

So many fans on MJ boards are never realistic when it comes to MJ's sales. I expect alot of them to be stupid as usual if Bad25 doesn't do great numbers. Especially if the promotion is there.

That's one reason I stopped going to fan boards because that's mostly all they talk about.

i would have to agree, michael is not given enough credit for his vocals.. people get so caught up in his spectacular danceing and performing that they forget about his voice.

his voice is so diverse, he can sing an angelic soft classical ballad, or a raw emotional song, and everything in between.his voice is unlike any other. i feel that michael as an artist is underated as well, the Genius and the Magic that michael has created is so extrordinary, its above and beond anything that any other artist has created (of coars, this is my opinion)

My Rolling Stone special edition is packed away somewhere right now, but there was an article in there that mentioned around the OTW era a critic called MJ the best technical singer in the United States (or singer with the best technique, something along those lines). It's interesting and frustrating that after he really blew up he suddenly wasn't considered a good singer anymore. People tend to believe if a musician is popular, they can't possibly be good. Prince seems to be an exception to this to some extent, but I'll bet if he'd been less popular people would go on about his talent even more. It's such a cynical way of looking at the world. I prefer to be incredibly happy that someone like MJ became so popular -- he was insanely talented, gave a shit about the world, he became popular in an era when the majority of Americans were against interracial marriage (which I just learned was until 1991 eek ), didn't conform to gender expectations, and generally came across as a kind and non-diva-esque person. When I think about how many people loved him, and how intensely they loved him, it makes me look at the world a little bit differently, because if people were as awful and judgmental as I sometimes fear, no way in hell would they have loved someone like MJ. Granted, everybody will take something different from a musician's work, but this is the way I like to look at it. smile

And I see all of your creations as one perfect complex

Out of curiosity, I looked up Rolling Stone magazine's greatest singers list. Michael is only #25.. I do feel that's a bit low, especially considering some of the people they ranked above him.

http://www.rollingstone.c...e-19691231

The guy who wrote about him on that list seemed to agree that he's underappreciated as an artist, though..

When somebody gets as big as he did, you lose sight of how avant-garde and revolutionary they are, but Michael Jackson pushed the boundaries of pop and R&B.

Can't believe Bob Dylan is ranked higher, this list is rubbish although I agree on Stevie wonder being in the top 10

Bob Dylan is on the list because he 'revolutionized' singing, because he didn't have a 'traditionally' good voice.

I'm shocked at Paul McCartney being #11.. never thought he was a good singer [and I'm a Beatles fan].. and definitely not better than Michael. I think Michael deserved to be at least top 20.

Yeah! That list is kinda ridiculous. Especially the people ranked above Michael. John Lennon and Bob Dylan better singers than him? Yeah, right. Kinda frightening that Bono is singing the praises for Dylan.

Personally, I do like both John and Bob's singing, but Michael is my favorite vocalist. But these lists are based on popularity, critical acclaim and influence, so it's not surprising that The Beatles and Bob Dylan would rank higher.

My opinion is that Bob Dylan cannot really sing. And that list is called "greatest singer", so the focus should be on the singing and not on whom Rolling Stone likes most.

RS made it clear it was about people they favored. They beat it in folks heads that the only ones that matter are a guy from the wrong side of the streets in Tupelo, four lads from Liverpool and a wiry protest folk singer from Minnesota. lol And occasionally a former long-haired, former bandana-sporting, former-bearded soul man messiah from Jersey. lol

I've seen people say that Michael was quote "bigger than a head of state". In the video of the news report of MJ going to the White House in 1984, a reporter says regarding MJ's arrival as "a head of state has never attracted so much attention..". To me that is crazy. MJ has got to be the biggest star in the history of the world after that.

I love "Carousel", but it's not hard to see why "Human Nature" replaced it. Still, I wish they had included this song instead of "The Girl Is Mine" or "PYT".

Uh, leave PYT alone. bored2 lol I actually don't mind TGIM though. I think the reasoning why Carousel was taken out was because it interrupted the album's flow. I envisioned having Carousel on Thriller but it didn't match what they were trying to achieve so I can see why Carousel didn't fit Thriller. I wouldn't have put it on the album either.

I've always loved PYT. Remove the stupid "guitar and uh part" as well as the chant, and it's heavily.

Yeah i don't know what special edition it's on, i have the 2001 remaster and it's the 1.51 version and it's not on Thriller25, but according the the King Of Pop album page in wiki, there's so many configurations the full Carousel appears on one version and it says it's on a special edition.

He's definitely underrated as a songwriter.. most people refuse to believe that he even wrote his own songs!http://prince.org/msg/reply.php?tid=376924&sc=f7d54&q=8514182&pg=10

I think Michael was underrated, peroid. He may have been big commercially, but critically people failed to acknowledge how awesome he was

BUT MJ is included in the Hall of Fame rock n 'roll (twice), the Songwriters Hall of Fame, in the National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame (it's not surveys, ratings and articles in newspapers, this is a complicated procedure and absolute recognition) ... I do not think. that there is at least one artist who has it in 3 areas: music, dance, song authorship.
Michael - a good songwriter, he wrote some great songs on their own and in my personal top 20 favorite authors, but let us frankly, there are dozens more gifted songwriters. Obviously, MJ is a much better songwriter than his rivals on the pop music (Mariah Carrey, Madonna, etc.), but in soul music, and especially in rock music - there is a group of songwriters who are more capable , versatile and productive.
In any case, Michael had a great talent and a full package of different abilities. Only the deaf, blind, limited hater would deny this obvious for everyone fact.
