Yeah Ike was 5'7 and weighed about 130 lbs. So it's possible that while he wasn't the "towering figure" displayed in What's Love, he might've had a Napoleon complex.
That's a great pic of Ike & Tina by the way. Love how Tina slithered like that. That takes TALENT! |

Andre Fischer hit Chaka, a woman. Aw hell naw!
Yeah and Andre also allegedly beat Natalie Cole up too during their marriage, or at least was verbally abusive towards her. Chaka said later she felt betrayed by Natalie because she knew how Andre had treated her and yet she married the motherfucker anyway. They did make up (Chaka and Natalie) after Natalie divorced him.
Andre Fischer ...I DIDN'T KNOW! He's on my list .... ! I knew Natalie said in the end she felt used by him but I didn't know about abuse! |

Yeah, was always odd to me she took so long to fight back. She always looked so strong, like she could throw down lol. I said this elsewhere there is no fair comparison between a man vs a woman but he's so not physically intimidating. He & I would've been getting it on in the worst way. |

I do believe Tina would hit him back a lot of times. There's stories of Tina and Ike getting into fights with other people (lest we forget Tina was a backwoods country girl from Tennessee so it ain't like she was new to the shit, she knew about that life because she lived it too long, that's why she left for Europe. ) One time, the Black Panthers confronted Ike & Tina about something and it's said that Tina was beating on one of the Black Panthers, I don't know if it was a male or female Panther member. Ike was beating on another Panther member too and possibly pistol whipped him. Another altercation - if you can call it that - was when Ike & Tina had finished a concert in San Francisco and some guy was beating on someone, Tina cautioned Ike "get the gun!" so Ike got his gun and shot a warning shot and the attacker got the hell outta dodge. Tina also got into fights over Ike with the women Ike was allegedly messing with. Their relationship was very complex. It's kinda like Bobby & Whitney, Ike & Tina were too toxic for each other so it don't surprise me that Tina left when she did, she was tired of covering up for Ike's ass. |

It was on JET magazine, a 1981 article if I'm not mistaken. And they said the woman Ike kissed was definitely Yvette "Chaka Khan" Stevens. |

I figured this. That's why when I watched her VH1 "Behind the Music" (or was it "Legends"? :hmm2) episode I thought she was sort of full of shit. To me she was acting like her whole marriage to Ike was just a matter of "convenience" since she wanted to be a singer. I especially when alluded to being with Ike as All in her fake ass british accent that her and Madonna have seemed to have created. Right Tina, sure.
Don't get me wrong, I love Tina, she's definitely a legend, but her ass be full of it sometimes in those docu's. Just sayin'. [Edited 2/24/12 17:16pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

Lots of celebrities definitely sugarcoat some things. Tina LOVED that man, no question. The songs she sang - many of which Ike wrote, mind you - told you a woman who stood by this man despite all the shit he put her through.
I think also she knew leaving Ike at the point she wanted to would've been detrimental because I & TT's musical success was on a gradual climb. She left him when Ike's drug abuse took ahold of his life, not to mention their popularity with audiences fading around the time she got the hell outta dodge.

Oh yes she did
She damn near flipped the bath tub on one of the Ikettes for telling her she was out with her husband. And there were a couple of confrontations that took place during/after the separation.
I don't wanna burn it for missfee and those who haven't read. One thing for sure, which is why I enjoyed reading the book, is reading about the gradual transformation of Tina. Not only on a personal side - oh they went for that, alright - but musically, I love how the author documented her appreciation for music. It went from "get it in here Anna and sing rougher" to talking about singing country and Phill Spector's music. |

Some of Ike's former musicians recalled incidents of Tina slapping Ike a few times. Some others also saw Tina getting into it with some women. Either over Ike or something else. We gotta remember she was the choreographer of the Ikettes and taught each member their dance moves (Ike controlled everything else of course). |
