Janet Jackson in talks to judge X-Factor? Simon talking to Britney Spears

Is Janet Jackson headed to “The X Factor”? The pop icon is reportedly in preliminary talks to join the U.S. singing competition as a judge.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Janet has expressed interest in participating in Simon Cowell’s show following the departure of judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

The 45-year-old singer hinted at her possible involvement during her appearance on Anderson Cooper’s talk show on Thursday.

“Oh my God. No, I’m not a judge on ‘The X Factor,’” she told Cooper, to which he replied, “You’re not currently a judge on ‘The X Factor.’”

She responded, “No, I am not,” while coyly adding, “But that’s all I really think I should say.”

THR previously reported that Whitney Houston was being considered for a spot on the judges’ panel alongside Cowell and L.A. Reid. Other names being thrown around include Pink and Katy Perry.

I wonder if she will dress or act like Paula and get compared to her, sometimes they look like sisters though I know they're different backgrounds.

I do wonder about this as Simon Cowell once said he thought she was overrated a d didn't understand her success. He must be desperate.

Plus Janet isn't that known for giving particularly interesting opinions on anything. Then again neither are Paula Abdul or Jennifer Lopez.

Well, I'd agree with Simon about that but if he thinks that about Janet, what do you think he thinks about Paula or J-Lo? LOL. That didnt' stop him from having them as judges.

Janet wouldn't be good at that job, she'd just be her boring, square, nice, drop dead gorgeous self.

They need to get somebody on that show that is ruthless, a real bitch. I am thinking Madge might actually be a good idea if she were up to it. She could even bring that fake ass British accent with her if she wanted. That way there would be 2 British jack-asses on the show at once. Well, sort of.

I thought they'd just get Kelly Rowland as she was good but won't be returning to the UK version.

lol Madonna as a judge would be hilarious! I love that bitch! But she thinks she's too big for those shows, and I can't say I blame her. I would have said that about Janet too years ago, but I think it could be a good career move for her, though I agree she's too nice for it and wouldn't want to hurt people's feelings.

Makes sense. It's not like she's doing anything else at the moment - even though she seems to be popping up doing interviews lately for no particular reason.

I doubt Simon will hire her. He probably knows she'll put just as much effort into this job as she has her music and acting careers in the last 10 years.

I would love to tune in every week to one of my favorite faces to see but I think it would be a bad career move. Here's why:

That field is crowded and seems to be a slow sinking ship. America is quickly growing weary of so many singing competitions (thanks to Simon Cowell). So why join something that's already on its way out? She'll be partly blamed for its demise. She doesn't need to be associated with anymore failure at this point. She needs some new wins under her belt. neutral

She doesn't have the personality for something like this. If we were talking about the janet. days or "The Velvet Rope" days maybe, because she projected herself with a lot more personality and CONFIDENCE back then. She was a lot less self conscious back then to me at least. I think maturity and the SB drama helped self-censored her. Up to that point, she hadn't really had to deal with massive failure and it showed through her response. Every since then we've gotten this insecure 45 year old woman whose accomplishments are already written in stone. confused

Her base isn't watching anyway. People that grew up with her music more than likely aren't interested in that show anyway. She should focus on re-establishing herself musically more than anything. That would really be the best thing for her brand IMO. It's time for a new record. She should have plenty to say by now, considering all of the things she's experienced since 2004. biggrin

She'll be compared to Paula because she'll not want to hurt anyone feelings, (which will be boring to watch). Not that being mean is a prerequisite or anything. Whitney or Mariah would be more of a perfect fit because again of their personalities. Nippy's out of the running of course. Mariah would be more entertaining. wink

Isn't Janet still big in the world? And she also doesn't need to redeem her career from anything. It would be best if she declined this job. Someone older should get that spot.

Again, Whitney would have been perfect. sad

Being a judge on one of these shows is a good career move for celebrities who aren't doing so well boxed Look at J-Lo.Her music career was nearly finished, then she gets the 'American' Idol gig and suddenly she's "hot" again.Janet hasn't had a hit record in a decade or so...what has she got to lose? She's now doing weight loss commercials! She should beg and plead for a gig like this.

Do you even think Janet cares about making hit music anymore? I don't. Janet doesn't seem like the type who is hungering to be popular again. She's never been a very "public" celebrity.

It wouldnt make a difference. She is way past her prime anyway and those days are long over. What she should focus on now are things that she feels most passionately about whether it be acting, touring or hell even advocating.

She has nothing to prove. J-Lo isnt an icon/legend like Janet nor has had a career like Janet so that wasnt a good comparision someone like JLo needs to do whatever she has to to stay in the spotlight.

Well I'll put it to you like this: Janet hasn't had a hit record since 2008, seems to be fed up with the business (the interview Jimmy gave for her BBC documentary kinda hinted that she wasn't in the mood to make music like she once did) and though she was real successful with her tour (I put that in bold so people reading my posts won't overlook it to argue), it seems she's alright with doing anything else as long as it doesn't come with the pressures of the business. I can see her not wanting to do another album but will do something like this.

Don't know if it's true or not so we'll see.

frankly, I don't think Janet cares about making music at all any more. The last decade has been pretty good evidence for it. She's being going through the motions for a long time.

What happened to her deal with Lionsgate to produce films. Did that fall through like her lingerie project?

This is why I say this X-Factor gig is a smart career move.Janet producing films is a risky move that may not pay off and seriously...a line of lingerie?? lol How profitable is that gonna be for her?

On the other hand,a hit TV show means a guaranteed paycheck and major exposure.

I don't think that Janet would be a good choice for this show. Whitney would have been a great choice or Mariah Carey.
