Isn't time for a new original Sting album?

Can you believe it's been almost 10 years since the last original Sting album, Sacred Love?

I loved that record too. Brand New Day not so much.

I think it's time for something new, yes?

^He seemed to have got on the same boat as Phil Collins and Elton and go Adult Contemporary.

I would tend to agree with you if we're talking cetain singles like Fields of Gold or When We Dance, but i wouldn't necessarily put him with Phil or Elton. I think Sting's music had a teeny bit more edge and his stuff was never really super romantic like those guys. I mean, The Soul Cages was all about his dad's life and death and his regret over not being a sailor. Yeah he mellowed some by Sacred Love but the songs were much more exciting than anything Phil and Elton has out there recently.

I think Sting said his later records weren't really selling that much, so he records what he wants and not try to make songs to get on the radio and be a pop star.

No. If it ain't broke, why try to fix it.

The same goes for U2, Simply Red, Phil Collins and Elton John. I'd be more excited if Don Johnson decided to release another album.

Don Johnson?!! razz lol Guess you don't think much of Sting. I thought Brand New Day was great. But, then, that was the last CD of his I bought and really listened to. Some really good songs on that one IMO.

thanks to this thread, I listened to "The Soul Cages" while at work...and wow, what an amazing album that was....so focused since it was a concept album regarding his father's death...great production, has aged very, very well....I'm still holding out hope that we get a new Police one day...

new Police

I don't see that happening. They had opportunity to record during the 2007 tour, but didn't. Then again The Eagles finally released an album of new material in 2007, after reuniting in 1994. It was their 1st since 1980. But to me, the odds of the Police releasing new songs is about the same as Peter Gabriel rejoining Genesis.

The Soul Cages rivals ...Nothing Like The Sun for me. It's so amazing. I wish I was in that band that recorded that album.

Have you heard 'The Chicago Sessions?' I'm a Sting fan, even saw him live.

I like 'Sacred Love.' 'If On A Winter's Night' is not typical Sting. The least listened to Sting album for me.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Nah totally disagree on the Elton Front, and in some ways Phil too. I mean fair to say guys like Rod Stewart, Seal, Michael Mcdonald sold to that audience now. But Elton and his type of songs are not that different, songs on say, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, possibly his best record ever, songs like Harmony, Candle in the Wind, or even take his hits like Your Song, Rocket Man, Sorry Seems to be, Someone Saved my life tonight, had they come out now, they would not be Top 100 hits theyd be stashed on the LITE station, so forgetting maybe the Lion King, which was not normal Elton. The change in elton is his voice, its deeper, but that wasnt by choice it was for his health and singing again or just letting a tumour grow in his thoat so he would sound like Tom Waits. So in Elton's respect, he didnt really change, had the HITS from then that we praise and worship, they wouldnt even get on the radio now unless they were on the LITE station. Its all age now, you can even have a rockier song, like Air Supply did on thier latest album as the lead single, it was a top 30 ac hit, furthest thing from AC. so i dont buy it, we put things in a box too much now because of playlists on ipods etc..

It's time for somebody to drop Sting. His head is so far up his own arse I doubt he'd even notice
