I LOVE it and it's underrated, I don't understand why this song is never promoted more, it was released as single, but it was not really promoted, no real music video.... such a shame

I saw the record single on sale once with an extended version, but feel too broke. We have a home video where I'm running around in a park and my parents dubbed most of the clips in that tape over with music and for that part of the tape, they used Angel! I do remember coming home everyday and I would put on one of the three records: Belinda Carsile Heaven on Earth, Like a Virgin or my nursery rhymes record

Because it was completely (and understandably) overshadowed by its b-side, her best '80s song:

it's fun, it's sweet, it's catchy and it's one of the better tracks on the album.

but I often find myself zoning out when it's on.

I love the Extended Version of this song.

Omitting this song on The Immaculate Collection (plus Causin' s Commotion, Who's that Girl, Dress You Up and the dreadful edit of La Isla Bonita), makes TIC absolutely incomplete.

Well, Dress you Up had an embarrising edit on the Celebration compilation too. It seems nobody has respect for that song either.

I so agree with you - I don't know why she hates "Who's that girl" and "True Blue" - they are genius compared to 4 minutes and give me all your loving

BTW - "Angel" is probably my second favourite Madonna song after "Till death do us part".

She released an import EP around the time of Immaculate Collection called The Holiday Collection that includes Who's That Girl and I believe True Blue, as well as Holiday and another track or two, Causing a Commotion I think. I went crazy when I saw it, the cover looks like TIC but it's maroon.

The Holiday Collection - Track listing

UK CD / Cassette Single
  1. "Holiday" (album version, 6:09)
  2. "True Blue" (album version, 4:17)
  3. "Who's That Girl" (album version, 3:58)
  4. "Causin' a Commotion" (Silver Screen single mix, 4:06)

- Should have had "dress you up", "angel" , "everybody", "gambler" and "burning up" on it too- why have holiday on it when it's on TIC? What's her obsession with that song? - it's nice but I wasn't even a top ten hit in the states and only hit the top 5 in the UK because it was re-released.

Holiday is on there because "The Holiday Collection" was part of the single release for that song in 1991. Also, I believe there are restrictions on how long a release can be and still be considered a single on the UK charts, rather than an EP or album, and the number of formats -- which is why there are usually 3 short CD releases or 2 CD's and 1 7" or 12", etc.

interestingly,"Angel" is what prevented the song "Into The Groove" from being released as a single in America."Angel" was released as a single around the same time that the movie 'Desperately Seeking Susan' came out. That film contains the hugely popular song "Into The Groove",which radio began adding to their playlists. It would have been a surefire Top 5 smash, but Warners didn't want both songs competing with each other. So,"Into The Groove" was held back as a single. They placed it on the B-side of the "Angel" 12".

Even today, I'm very surprise neither Madonna or Warner Bros ever bother to make a video for Angel. This track was a potential top 5 hit at least.

Actually,it peaked at Number Five on the Billboard charts wink

"Angel" is a song by American singer-songwriter Madonna from her second studio album Like a Virgin. It was released on April 10, 1985 by Sire Records as the third single from the album. Written by Steve Bray and Madonna, it was one of the first songs developed for the project and, according to Madonna, was inspired by a girl who is saved by an angel, and she falls in love with Him. "Angel" was released as a 12" single with "Into the Groove" in some countries and charted likewise. A music video was initially planned for the release, but was later cancelled. Instead a promotional video comprising clips from her previous videos was released in the United Kingdom.

Musically "Angel" consists of three chord ascending hook, which serves for the verse and chorus. It has vocal harmonies beneath the main chorus and the lyrics repeat the angel-like image of Madonna's saviour. Critics gave mixed review of the song, with one group denoting it as a classic while the others felt it was sub-par compared to the other Madonna singles. "Angel" became Madonna's fifth consecutive top-five single on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top of its dance charts. It was also able to reach number-one in Australia and the top-five of the charts in Canada, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom. Madonna has performed the song only once, on her Virgin Tour in 1985.

There's a greater chance of monkeys flying out of her butt than her playing it on her upcoming tour but Angel is one of her best. I really don 't get why Like A Virgin is such a disrespected album. It's got some of the best pop EVER on it!

without this excellent pop song (Nile truly shines here), the LAV album would be even worse...

everybody talks about Material Girl and LAV, but without songs like Angel or Dress U Up the album would be hopeless; still her "worst" (kinda B- ) 80s album, though...

For many years,I did too lol That song got a MASSIVE amount of radio airplay! If it had been a single,it might have gone straight to Number One.

and U know why, right? because there's nothing left, lol Over and Over is not good enough, LDLHA would have been a bad choice (Crazy 4 U is miles better), and Pretender, Stay, ShooBeeDoo???,,,ugh..no, just no

TRUE BLUE on the other hand, had 5 hit-singles but Where's the Party could have easily been the sixth smash, LMTWGR could have been a top10 as well...with a proper high-bugdet video...

Never been a big fan of the Like A Virgin album, but Angel is definetly it's best cut (If you don't count the rerelease with Into The Groove). One of my top 15 favorite Madonna songs!

mad See!

So aside from the 4 massive, awesome great pop singles (which then had a 5th added to it!) it's not so good?

So it's got some filler bored2
