Monkees Singer Davy Jones Dead at 66

Monkees Singer Davy Jones Dead at 66

0229_davy_jones_EX_01
Davy Jones -- lead singer of The Monkees -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

An official from the medical examiner's office for Martin County, Florida confirmed with TMZ they received a call from Martin Memorial Hospital informing them that Jones had passed away.

We do not know the circumstances surrounding his death.

Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and 4 daughters from previous marriages. He was 66-years-old.

Jones joined The Monkees in 1965 ... along with Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork ... and together they churned out a bunch of hits including, "Daydream Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer."

The group was initially cast by TV producers who wanted to create a scripted series about an actual rock n' roll band.

Davy's last performance was on February 19th in Oklahoma -- the night before, he performed at BB King in NYC ... and he looked totally fine.

Yeah I read that too. Davy was still doing interviews too. Seemed healthy. sigh Guess the old saying is always true: only the utmost know when your time's up. Chilling. Hope his last days were peaceful. Glad he went out doing what he loved.

NO NO NO NO!!!! I just heard on the National news. UGH! I'm all crying now. He was one of my first crushes as a little girl. I used to watch The Monkees everyday after school and still love their music to this day. Of course back then I didn't know they were of my parents generation. I met Davy in the late 90's when he toured with Grease and did an autograph signing at the Wherehouse. Now I'm really kicking myself for not seeing The Monkees last year on tour. rose sad

Aw man! sad

It feels like he, and the rest of the band, have been around since FOREVER, and it felt like they'd always be here. Rest peacefully, Davy Jones.

That, or a prexisting condition that wasn't discovered in time. You can be the healthiest person in the world and still drop dead of a heart attack. Sad news nonetheless, 66 is too young. rose

Didn't the legendary exercising health nut Jack LaLanne die of a heart attack (he was over 90 but still)?
