I'll be glad when I can stop feeling sad re: Mr. Cornelius. “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

I don't know why but I hate having to go to hear things like this. Just makes me sad. So no. But yeah big up to Stevie anyway. I heard Gladys Knight sounded distraught when she talked about Don so I didn't wanna hear that either. [Edited 2/6/12 22:11pm]

s to you timmy84 i know that after the storms and tears of sadness comes the sunshine and rainbow of celebration. i also know soon i will do my new orleans metamorphoses and start celebrating Mr. Cornelius life. I feel he would not want a lot of grief attached to his memory.

Nah, I doubt he want anyone grieving. His life should be celebrated at the funeral. I heard they may do the Soul Train line at his funeral too. May be just a rumor but that would be a great send off.

[APOLOGIES FOR THE BLOCK TEXT. I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENS.] And you know, I don't know much about Mr. Cornelius in his later years, but during the ST's heyday... I always go this impression that he was like "Uncle Don" and his attitude was "Y'all let these young folks have some fun and be young." You know? He seemed to enjoy being around youth and their spirit and he left young people express themselves before it was the "in" thing to do. Remember, he started out in the early 70s when mainstream (including black American mainstream) was trying to squelch youthful independence and creative expression. So I always will have fond memories of ST and Don Cornelius as a place for the young to have a safe and fun place to get down. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Looking back, it's remarkable Don did what he did. He brought people together on the power of dancing.

It's unfortunate that in light of the death of an iconic figure in black American culture like Don Cornelius, someone would use this opportunity to slander both him and O'Bryan. Normally, I would not address something like this, but given the circumstances it seems like this is the time to end this.
As for O'Bryan, he signed with A&M Records in 1988 when John McClain was the head of A&R. But shortly after that, A&M pretty much shook up its R&B roster and McClain was fired in late 1989, so no album materialized. [Edited 7/11/13 9:28am]

Don Cornelius and O'Bryan were not related.
I don't know if this will post, but O'Bryan did an interview Saturday on Jay King's online network, discussing his career and working with Cornelius: [Edited 2/7/12 19:20pm]

Wow, thanks for the info. I have read this rumor several times and was surprised to hear this and was somewhat skeptical but who know about these hollywood rumors.
It is a nice gesture to address these rumors since Cornelius is no longer here to do so himself.

That clears EVERYTHING up. Thanks Musick. I was starting not to believe the stories either about Don and O'Bryan. O'Bryan had nothing but kind words to say about Don too following his passing.

No problem. It's time these rumors ended, one way or another. [Edited 2/7/12 17:32pm]

Thx for clearing up all the nasty rumors. Some in this thread said some very horrible things about Don sexuality concerning O'Bryan, which had absolutely nothing to do with his legacy. I said it earlier in this thread about it. But it continued. The interview cleared up a lot. Even though it was like pulling teeth to get anything out of O'Bryan in the beginning of the interview. He is not a good interviewer. It should be an Unsung on O'Bryan. But thx again for posting the interview much appreciated.... [Edited 2/7/12 18:37pm] will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! In my opinion, O'Bryan was not as much of the issue as Jay King (who is not known to be the most gracious and diplomatic of people) and the mode of questioning he did. O'Bryan does have a tendency to bounce all over the place mentally, but Jay's rapid-fire questions about O'Bryan's original contract he signed with Don Cornelius and the occasional boisterous interruptions did not help.
Also, you have to keep in mind that O'Bryan did this interview three days after Cornelius' death -- it's a little space from the shock of the news, but it's still a fresh wound. Not to mention O'Bryan has not done a ton of interviews over the years, so he naturally is going to be a little rusty.
Otherwise, glad to be of service. [Edited 2/7/12 19:06pm]

This is so very sad. Soul Train was a ritual on Saturdays. Everyone I know watched. Don't disturb me before Soul Train, or during Soul Train. That was a given. We'd talk about who appeared on the show all week at school, and discuss the new dances. We'd talk about who was on the stage, who wore what, who came down the Soul Train line, all of that. It's so heartbreaking that it ended this way. The show gave so much exposure to the artists and helped so many people. I'm going to miss Don Cornelius and his debonair swag, deep voice, & fluffy afro. The other shows just weren't the same. My parents have friends who performed their songs the show. I have older family members who danced on the show, they would teach me the steps. Some are no longer here (RIP). I have friends who danced on the show in it's later years. One person I know got a commercial from dancing on the show, & it used to air on Saturdays during ST. Like I said the show helped a LOT of people. I got to attend the Soul Train Awards when it was held at The Shrine, and I will never forget it. I say thank you for all of the experiences, memories, laughter, & entertainment.

I want this badly! But after I filled in all the info and created an account I can't get past the shipping address page. It will not let me select country. Damn damn damn. I wish I was back in Chicago right now. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

NP, it's unclear if they're gonna have a public viewing or just a private funeral.

I seriously doubt there'd be a public viewing (...just my guess).

The Cornelius family would probably want it to be private anyways.
