Freddie Jackson Unsung

Now this one I might be able to sink my TEETH into. That clip they showed of him saying was he gay or straight and looking like he has aged 20 years-he looks so bad now cause of all that weight he lost.

Well, you know how a lot of black people can be when it comes to being gay and that is a damn shame. But yeah, Freddie looked TORE UP in that clip.

And I don't think that was VOLUNTARY weight loss. That looks like the weight loss that comes from having been sick.

We will have to stay tuned. Never know if he may have had a bout

with cancer. I wasn't a huge Freddie fan but he had a huge impact on r&b

radio in the mid 80's and the guy always stayed true to his formula.

Yeah that's really what I wanna know. sad I mean, and it seems like he's losing more than he's gaining. It can't be because he lost it on his own.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Good vibes for your collection. The album came out in 1982 on Capitol and was reissued on cd some years ago. That promo stuff was posted somewhere online. Found it on google cool

As for Mystic Merlin, ok but they were bypassed by The Time, Midnight Starr, Lakeside, The SOS Band and others. They had a sound that fit the times but were not going to last past 84 just because people's intrest change too often.

Thank you, Uncle Grandpa. I think the bigger reason Merlin didn't take off is that the band's name sounded like a kid's show

Some more mystic trivia:

The song 'Your Love' was penned by Freddie Jackson and Barry Strutt and was originally titled 'Don't Let Your Love (Love Without A Meaning)'. It was written in the attic of Clyde Bullard's home in the Bronx.

Incidentally, Clyde's uncle is Bill Withers.

Mystic Merlin continued to record after the departure of Freddie Jackson for a successful solo career. In 1990, they recorded a single entitled 'Dream Lover' which was released on TAPE.

They have also recorded under the name of Storm (not to be confused with the same group who recorded 'Can't Nobody Love Me Like You').

In the aftermath of the September 11th disaster, Clyde Bullard and Barry Strutt wrote a song entitled 'Standing Tall', which was performed at a rememberance service for that day. Barry Strutt is an attorney today, although

he still writes with Clyde and is in touch with Jerry Anderson. Sadly, Leslie Dorsey was killed driving a gypsy cab. Leslie was a classically trained singer, and sang on streets corners as part of a Black barbershop quartet.

Why is it when a woman loses weight, she is congratulated but when a man loses weight, people start whisipering? Folks, being overweight it very unhealthy, especially for a man because of where we carry the bulk of our weight. We'll see, but, based on what I've heard, Freddie lost the weight because he just didn't want to be overweight any more.

I never bought Jackson album or record but I didn't change the radio dial if one of his songs came on either. I had the impression, they were trying to make him the next Peabo Bryson.

Mr. Jackson isn't unsung either... boy, that series. lol

I've never heard of this Mystic Merlin group. Good info. I hope they get into this part on Unsung. Maybe Melba Moore will be on the show?
