Isn't the title "Heartbreak Hotel"?

That was the title but then they changed it to " This Place Hotel" because they didnt want it to be closely linked to Elvis Heartbreak Hotel

Elvis was dead when this came out, this song called is Heartbreak Hotel. Even when its on the radio they say Heartbreak Hotel.

I know that but that is the reason why they change it. If I wanted to request this song I would request it as Heartbreak Hotel as well but This Place Hotel is the title on the C.D. They didnt want backlash or comparisions because it being the same titled as the Elvis song so they changed it.

It is not called Heartbreak Hotel, that was the orginal title. Michael even talks about it himself in Moonwalker.

He said in Moonwalker that the record company printed it This Place Hotel so it's not to be confused with the Elvis song, and then said something about Elvis not being an influence, so there is no association, something to that effect.

I've never heard the song on the radio here, though I have heard Destiny songs.

I refuse to call this song anything other than "Heartbreak Hotel." AFAIK, that nonsensical other name doesn't exist. hmph!

I agree! I will always refer to this song as "Heartbreak Hotel".Changing the name was really stupid.

This is a very strange song.
I feel to this song a dual relationship:
1) I do not like this song much and rarely listen.
2) I think it brilliantly written.
Truly a unique song ... lol

"This Place Hotel" doesn't make sense, period. "Strange Hotel" or maybe just "Heartbreak"... hell, any other title makes more sense.

Well, for some reason, the melody is not very pleasing to my ears. But that does not change the fact that I think it's a masterpiece and one of the best songs that MJ wrote in his entire career.

heart the song, but the title is off.

Identity

There's an impending sense of doom that pervades the lyrics ("We came to this place, where the vicious dwell, and found that wicked women run this strange hotel").

"Heartbreak Hotel" is similar in tone to "Billy Jean", another darkly accusatory tale disguised as a dance track, except this time the narrator is trapped for untold years in a hotel for the heartbroken. There's a yell towards the end of the song that makes you wonder what evil forces dragged him into the depths of the unknown.

So what? Yesterday is by The Beatles and is on a Beatles album, but the only Beatle on it is Paul. It's not called a Paul McCartney song, it's a Beatles song. Many Lennon/McCartney songs weren't written by both of them, but by whoever is singing lead.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
