Isn't the title "Heartbreak Hotel"? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That was the title but then they changed it to " This Place Hotel" because they didnt want it to be closely linked to Elvis Heartbreak Hotel

Elvis was dead when this came out, this song called is Heartbreak Hotel. Even when its on the radio they say Heartbreak Hotel. Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I know that but that is the reason why they change it. If I wanted to request this song I would request it as Heartbreak Hotel as well but This Place Hotel is the title on the C.D. They didnt want backlash or comparisions because it being the same titled as the Elvis song so they changed it. It is not called Heartbreak Hotel, that was the orginal title. Michael even talks about it himself in Moonwalker. [Edited 12/28/11 22:46pm]

He said in Moonwalker that the record company printed it This Place Hotel so it's not to be confused with the Elvis song, and then said something about Elvis not being an influence, so there is no association, something to that effect.
I've never heard the song on the radio here, though I have heard Destiny songs.

I refuse to call this song anything other than "Heartbreak Hotel." AFAIK, that nonsensical other name doesn't exist. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I agree! I will always refer to this song as "Heartbreak Hotel".Changing the name was really stupid.

I agree with the title change... This Place Hotel doesnt even make sense with the song LOL "This Place Hotel" doesn't make sense, period. "Strange Hotel" or maybe just "Heartbreak"... hell, any other title makes more sense. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Well, for some reason, the melody is not very pleasing to my ears. But that does not change the fact that I think it's a masterpiece and one of the best songs that MJ wrote in his entire career.

By far THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE of the record.

This is my all time favorite MJ track that he wrote. It is brilliant for the time period he wrote it in. He was way ahead of his time & will be missed.....

My baby broke my heart and left me yearning
the song, but the title is off. I like it as I knew it, heartbreak Hotel. I wish it hadn't been turned into the present title.

There's an impending sense of doom that pervades the lyrics ("We came to this place, where the vicious dwell, and found that wicked women run this strange hotel").
"Heartbreak Hotel" is similar in tone to "Billy Jean", another darkly accusatory tale disguised as a dance track, except this time the narrator is trapped for untold years in a hotel for the heartbroken. There's a yell towards the end of the song that makes you wonder what evil forces dragged him into the depths of the unknown. [Edited 12/29/11 17:01pm]

it's credited to the Jacksons "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I know, that's why I said that.
But yeah, I knew this song was produced and wrote by Michael. But Marlon and also Tito are on the record(well, that comes from Wikipedia)

Who gives a damn who wrote it? My goodness, it's a great fucking song by the Jacksons regardless of how it was written or recorded. Now can we get back to off of this song on this thread the way it was before????? [Edited 12/29/11 18:11pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

So what? Yesterday is by The Beatles and is on a Beatles album, but the only Beatle on it is Paul. It's not called a Paul McCartney song, it's a Beatles song. Many Lennon/McCartney songs weren't written by both of them, but by whoever is singing lead. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
