I never understood the whole "chasing trends" thing lol It's a silly criticism to make.Pop artists make "pop music"....meaning,they make music that is popular with the public. To a large extent, they have to be in sync with all the popular trends and sounds,if they wanna sell records and make an impact.

She has been tracing the silly R&B trend / Timberlake shit, ie. think of '4 minutes'...(P has also been guilty of that recently with damn autotune).

People like Prince and Madonna should be making new trends not copying other trends already out there.

The 80s sound is what made her good IMO, since 97 she hasn't really been 'Madonna' but a different artist as far as I can see, but her fans seem to lap it up....

I don't think people stop being sexy after a certain age.....look at Nigella Lawson or the actress Helen Mirren, she's freakin hot and she's late 60s...

BUT you can be dignified about it and Madonna spreading her legs in leotards and fishnets at 53 is just not sexy but smacks of desperation....

She can still be sexy, but be more subtle about it....(maybe like Prince is now)

I don't think she chasing(tracing?) an R&B trend.

On what album? the last one she had 2 or 3 songs with them on it. If she admires them and wants to work with them whats the problem? That album, if uve heard it is pretty diverse. If she had 2-3 albums with the same thing then you could say she's chasing it, but that's not the case by a long shot.

in 2011 I question how much 'new' musical trends can really be created vs how music was in the 1970s or 80's

I don't think its desperate at all. Again you're controlling a womans sexuality... like female circums. Tina Turner came back on the scene a few years looking like 1980's Tina and I don't think any told her to cover up

Madonna is in shape, how is dignified supposed to look?

Her body is more toned that a lot of those 20 something on the scene

And she dresses very classy, you make it seem like she is running around is daisy duke 24/7

By making such comments I am not 'controlling' anyone's sexuality, I'm just commenting that at her age I think she should be a little more dignified as it's not sexy to be so overt as she is....subtlety is more sexy...

Watch the video for Hung Up...its off-putting to me!

Exactly what "trends" are being created these days? hmmm Name one current artist who is doing something that nobody else is doing. Everything has already been done before. The 80s was the last era in which we had truly unique, groundbreaking music.

Good luck in finding that lol There's no more ground to break...no more trends to start.Young people think Lady Gaga is so original and unique, but that's only because they're not familiar with all the people that she was "inspired" by.

I enjoy Gaga though I'm also aware she's doing what's been done before and giving it her own spin. Sometimes I go back to watch 90's dance music videos that I've completely forgotten about (not the songs, the videos) and catch images Gaga has borrowed though I know those come from the past too.

It is controlling peoples sexuality when you say 'You can't do this at this age' I'm not talking about children, but adults. It might have been off putting 2 you but there are another 100 people who loved it. So who is right and who is wrong? She looking fucking BELLA!! I LOVE the Hung Up video... U do know she was paying homage to the 1970's and John Travoltas film Saturday Night Fever at the dance studio

What the Freakin hell is wrong with how she looks??

I don't understand your problem with her sexuality + age

2 me this was her HOTTEST era since Erotica/Bedtime Stories

Confessions was a solid era, I couldn't stop playing that album for 2 years though at first listen, I didn't like it as much as American Life, which I fancied

I also agree that it's people's ageism and double standards that are making people act this way towards Madonna. At least she had the music to back up the sexuality and it was done tastefully. If Brad Pitt was dancing around showing his chest to this song, I bet you all would love it lol

Nope, I think I remember the conversation you're talking about though. Some people thought she'd just stick to touring now.

The Confessions era proved that Madonna is still innovative, and she rightly predicted the resurgence of dance in pop music, just like she did the rise of electronica 7 years before that. In the last decade Madonna was still a trend setter. Expect something next level this spring.

You don't get to choose how someone expresses their sexuality, that's cruel and opressive.

it's funny how the world at large - there's those of us who try to cheer someone like madonna on, happy for her and her success and how she transcends everything...

...then there's the folks that are so determined to hate her enduring popularity, great bod, money, going against the double standards, and have to knock her for her 'age' -- i mean, what grade are we in? P and MJ are exactly the same age, too...

I think we need to create a theme of "Madonna - sticky" (the five themes of the Madonna on the front page), and the theme of "MJ - sticky" to remove, so I finally was able to start topics that really interest me. This is discrimination. lol

Madonna arguably was sexy...but back then she was more classy about it....

I am male but just because I don't find a 53 year old cavorting around in a leotard sexy doesn't mean i'm gay.

And it's not about age either, Helen Mirren is old but she's damn sexy, because she is subtle and classy about it..

All i'm saying is that Madge would be hotter if she stopped trying so hard to be sexy and 'down with the kids'....
