I remember some people even on this site tryng to encourage others to buy multiple copies of Prince's albums to help them to go top ten. If my memory serves me correct, that happened already with 3121.

its very rare that the artist is aware of what their troubled fans do, especially with these "buy the album again so we go platnum, get the single 3 times so we debut number one" this is one reason downloads to me, are faceless purchases and really not proof of what you sell overall for real.
