Adele’s ’21′ Becomes Highest Selling British Album Of 21st Century

adele21 Adeles 21 Becomes Highest Selling Album Of 21st Century

If the last year has proved anything, it is that people will most certainly buy what they most certainly believe in.

For, after what can only be described as an astounding year for Brit belle Adele, her latest LP ‘21‘ is now the highest selling British album of the 21st Century.

Full story below…

With over 3,418,131 copies sold in the country since its release back in January, it has remained in the top ten for 45 consecutive weeks and is now the 11th highest selling album of all time.

As if that wasn’t enough, the LP was recently certified twelve times Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry and as of the 19th of November 2011,it is the most downloaded release in UK chart history.

Spawning the singles ‘Rolling In The Deep‘, ‘Someone Like You‘ and ‘Set Fire To The Rain‘, the album is also the highest selling US album of the year, beating the likes of Lady GaGa, Beyonce and Rihanna to the top spot with over 4.75 million units sold in the country.

The lesson to be learnt here is this:

Artists who deliver quality material and back that quality material up with well organized promotional campaigns will without a doubt, reap the rewards.

Oh to be an executive at XL Recordings this Christmas.

Congratulations!

Misleading title. You left out a key word. It is the best selling British album of the 21st Century, not the best selling album overall.

Her sales increased after death but I guess Adele's proved to be too much. I said it would become the best-selling British album (I said of all time but still) and well that's almost true. Amazing it's the 11th best-selling album of all time. Which means she's not too far from Michael, Oasis and Queen.

Astounding when you consider how little promo she's done.

A somewhat disasterous tour, health problems, only 2 music videos, little television appearences, a few magazine covers. Biggest album of the decade.

I'm looking at the Wiki list of best-selling albums in the UK and if the numbers are right, she done surpassed Madonna AND Simply Red!

I'm not a hater - i was actually a huge fan of her first album and had loads of her songs in my ipod.

But other than "someone like you" - i'm not feeling the other singles from this CD - I don't see what's so great about them. And her cover of "lovesong" is a crime.

Maybe I need to listen to the whole collection together other than individual tracks to appreciate it.

But other than that - congrats! she seems nice.
