Classic 80's Instrumental: Tyrone Brunson's "The Smurf"
Anybody remembers this joint? I was a young breakdancing, pop lockin fool when this came out. I never knew the name of it or the artist. Now I know...
Now that I'm older, I can really appreciate the bass lick in this song.

Epic Records black label. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Do you remember this or did you discover it years later?

I heard it when the song first came out. People would pop & lock to it. I have the record, that's why I wrote black label. In the 1970's Epic had an orange label. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I gotta tell ya how I found this joint today. For years I could only remember the sample of the lead guitar lick from X-Clan's "Heed The Word Of The Brother". So I finally searched for where they got the sample which led me to Tyrone.

Tyrone had another song that was kinda popular, but I don't remember the exact title. I think it's called Sticky Situation. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
