Madge - Bedtime Stories Yay or Nay?

I'm a big Madonna fan and mostly love music from the 80s, so i've never gotten around to this album because I generally don't like music from the 90's. It tends to sound more dated to me than music from the 80's. I'm thinking of giving this album a shot, finally. Wht do you guys think? Is this a good album? I love Human Nature and even Take a bow is cool. How's the rest?

I don't care for much of her 80's music, i LOVE her 90's work though.

The album is good Survival, Take A Bow, Forbidden Love, I'd Rather Be Your Lover, Bedtime Stories all good songs.

It's got a pretty chilled vibe though right?

I love Bedtime Stories. I think it has some of her stronger songs.

songs like Sanctuary, Secret & Survival are amongst my very favorite from her catalog.

Yeah, it has a very R&B/Hip-Hop sound to it with some hints of dance & rock.

I'm not a big Madge fan, but my wife is so I'm exposed to most of her albums.

I would say Bedtime Stories was my favourite, alongside ROL. But then I love that chilled out understated R&B vibe Babyface had going on in the 90s....

I've never been a fan of much R&B music so this isn't one of my favorite from Madge. I think the singles are fantastic, some of her strongest! but survival is really the only non single I listen to regularly.

It's her Hard Candy of the 90s, but less desperate, more natural, more honest, and of course 90s R&B, despite its flaws, is better than 00s shit-hop/shit-dance

if anything, the whole album is full of slow numbers, ballads, dark mid-tempo and pseudo-trance, its a VERY relaxed album and the first step towards the right direction (Ray of Light)

worst songs: Survival, Don't Stop, in other words, the upbeat R&B numbers...

so, a YAY, but it's NOT one of her top5 albums, in my opinion; in fact, I'd only place it above HC, Evita, Dick Tracy and AM...

AND of course, this was her first album WITHOUT epic, fast, edgy, loud, hardcore dance anthems like Express Yourself, Lucky Star, Into The Groove, Vogue, Deeper and Deeper, etc. so for many longtime fans, BS was the end of the road, at least until Confessions...

Really? I actually like Hard Candy but I knowi'm in the minority on that.

Imay try Bedtime Stories out but if it's no good it's getting deleted. This will be a big stretch for me since it's a 90's album and it's slower, as well as R&B.

It's one of her weakest efforts, but the singles are great (well, except "Bedtime Story"). All of her subsequent albums are better.

This album is surprisingly mellow for a Madonna album. The grooves are slow and seductive.....the complete opposite of Erotica.Looking at the print ads for the album,it's easy to see what Madonna was trying to do.One ad featured this caption: Madonna wants to tuck you in with her new album.....that's "tuck" with a "t" lol She was aiming for a softer, more sensual R&B sound.

The highlights: "Survival","Secret","Inside Of Me","Forbidden Love" and "Take A Bow".

It's a satisfying album....not nearly as edgy as what came later, but it's pretty good.

nod Even at ten, I knew what Madonna was doing especially from the reaction she got from Erotica.

Madonna was defintley going for more serious music from 94-98

She had this, Evita, Some To Remember ballads including the hit You'll See and then of course Ray Of Light

This was THE period of Madonna for me

I purchased it when it first came out. I only brought it for "Take A Bow". I really never listened to the other tracks. That was the last Madonna album that I actually purchased and kept for longer than a couple of weeks.

Bedtime Stories era-yay for all the amazing videos with songs to go with it! Album-nay, though I'll give the artwork and some of the non-releases credit. It is not as strong as her 80's work, and I never, ever understood the comparison to Hard Candy. Hard Candy is more bubbly like her 80's work and 00's work.

probably my favorite album by her. i love the chilled out r&b vibe and personal lyrics. i've been obsessed with 92-94 era Madonna for the last month. her music, videos, tour, interviews, general style...i think it was the most brilliant time in her career.

Inside Of Me is my fave from Bedtime Stories.

I vote yay.

It's Madonna's take on the hip-hop soul genre (co-founded by Mary J. Blige & Sean "Puffy" Combs no less).

My favorite track from the album was NEVER release as a single like it should have:

I love Madonna doing r&b...it's where she is at her most interesting imo.

And I would consider her debut a FULL ON R&B experience...

Yeah, I have to agree. Madonna doing anything but R&B and/or Dance is a bit of a joke. Sorry folks but she is.
