Which artists fanbases almost made you ditch them?

Are there any artists fanbases that really ticked you off or triggered you to the point where you stopped being a fan or came very close to it?

Mj fans and always bringing up records, stats and just treating mj as if he made god himself. Same with janet=p, beyonce oh gosh her fans are vicious. They think she's the queen of soul & everything else. Lady gagas little monsters. They have all made me dislike the artist a bit

I'm an mj fan and I'm guilty of some of this behaviour....but I'm also embarassed for some of us lol I love him but am so burnt out from him now, and it's nothing against him but I'm exhausted from hearing too much info overload now and watching fans divide over what's real and what isn't regarding everything.

Janet fans are okay, but she is not bigger than Madonna even though I like her better overall. You can still love someone and admit there are artists more popular than them.

Beyonce fans think she's god too and talk like they are uneducated from what I've seen online.

I give the little monsters a break, they are young and at least she's not beiber and has talent lol

It all depends on the level of fan. lol
90% obsessed fans of any artist entirely (including Prince) are abnormal and strange.
The vast majority of ordinary fans or enthusiasts of any singer are cute and nice people.

I find that nowadays I get along with ordinary fans better, although the idea of what else they could be thinking scares me, though I think it has more to do with my own insecurity more than anything else.

When I was in school all the guys were into Queen and U2 and Dire Straits and I got a little caught up with, although I never really liked them. Some of the guys liked Prince, but none of them were funky. Then I realized, just because everybody likes Queen, doesn't mean I have to! So it's usually the music that's popular with "normal" people that I can do without. Didn't even go and see Dylan this year because he had Mark Knopfler with him. And now of course I regret it. Oh well...

MJ. Gaga. Beyonce.

All of their most intense fans make me sick. Being a huge Gaga fan, it makes me difficult to stomach twitter with all the absolutley viscious little Monsters.

then there are Beyonce stans...

I think anyone who has 'ditched' an artist due to the fandom is showing their young age. I can agree that some fandoms do put you off, but enough to stop liking an artist?

That's just silly.

I think some people just don't like to follow "popular" artists because it takes away from their belief that they have more discerning tastes in music than the masses.

None. I like the music first and foremost. Fans wouldn't stop me from liking what I like. I don't care if I'm the only one who likes something, really. That's just how I am.

I agree that just ditching someone means you didn't like the artist much to begin with. I Know I referenced Mariah first, but I never stopped liking her, though I cackle at her childish quirks too, cause her fans act the same. It's cute. But honestly, I'll never forget how I once joined a Mariah chat, introduced myself as a Mariah and MJ fan, they took the second part and accused me of being a hater there to spy on them and all kinds of stuff and next thing I know, I was banned. Those are not the kind of people I would want to interact with and it reflects badly on the artist in a way.

I always much better can communicate with ordinary fans. Obsessed fans of any artist are absolutely hostile and intolerant of others' opinion, they are a little radical. cool

I sometimes get caught up in feeling obsessed and defensive, but at other times, if fans are acting much worse than I am, that annoys me, especially if they act like MJ is the only person to do good music, that is my biggest pet peeve.

About 90% of fans the Beatles believe they are the greatest musicians in history, but because I myself think so, it's never let me outraged. smile
Scorpions and Pink Floyd have the peace-loving fans in general, because it is in most very adults people. biggrin
Obsessed fans of Prince are conflicts, it is true, you simply need to recognize it. lol They possessed a constant struggle with the fans ... hmm ... ohh, you know, everybody knows his name. lol
Obsessed fans of MJ intolerant of another opinion. Vitiligo, surgery, biological paternity .... reaction is stiff and very strange. eek
Obsessed fans of Madonna, Mariah, Celine and Janet always referred to their favorite queen, and humiliate the competitors. mad
Britney fans are usually nice, but very naive. wink
Obsessed fans of Gaga mostly children and teenagers, so .... yeah ... just give them time to grow up. lol

In general, fans of rock bands in the majority are adequate. cool
Most obsessed fans of any pop artist like conflict, and sometimes act like hysterical, so I spend more distinction in styles of music, but not on specific artists.

I love the Beatles too and anyone who begs to differ can......

I find young adults also liking Pink Floyd though, I remember seeing youth sporting the Dark Side of the Moon hooded shirts at one point that were being sold

Prince fans are....assholes! lol and I love it most of the time smile

As for MJ, I tend to get very defensive of him with certain people who don't know much about him, but if they already like him on whatever level, I don't take it too hard, as long as they are not personally insulting him and coming off as immature if being critical.

As for the divas, all 4 are different from one another and have contributed what they have, and all their fans need to recognize that.

Britney fans need some music education though I understand why they like her too. Catchy songs, terrible voice.

I think Gaga has adult fans too, I know many in their 30's and 40's who tend to like her too, I like her and am in my late 20's, but she really had to grow on me and I'm not nuts about her, it's just casual, like the dance music I enjoyed in the 90's, nothing too serious

This really annoys me the most.

I feel PF fans argue all day about how Darkside of the Moon is superior and inferior to their other albums.

Obsessed fans of Prince are conflicts, it is true, you simply need to recognize it. lol They possessed a constant struggle with the fans ... hmm ... ohh, you know, everybody knows his name. lol

I don't get this what you are trying to express here...

Obsessed fans of MJ intolerant of another opinion. Vitiligo, surgery, biological paternity .... reaction is stiff and very strange. eek

True, but anyone obsessed is gonna be intolerant of others' opinions.

Obsessed fans of Madonna, Mariah, Celine and Janet always referred to their favorite queen, and humiliate the competitors. mad

It is actually very amusing to watch them all argue about who sold more.

Britney fans are usually nice, but very naive. wink
Obsessed fans of Gaga mostly children and teenagers, so .... yeah ... just give them time to grow up. lol

I put them all in the same boat tbqh, but Gaga fans are think that she's the best thing to come to music since sound.

I was just trying to identify painful points of each fanbase and to determine the point at which they get crazy ((:

The truth is that the determining factor - the level of fan:
one thing, when you just respect the artist and appreciate his work (ordinary fan), and another thing when you're in love with him, treat him as a native person and feel a spiritual affinity with him. These are different things. Most obsessed fans similar, regardless of the artists they love. wink

Some people really do connect to mj or whoever they like though, and I can't blame them if they feel that his music has inspired them during a tough time in their lives or if they themselves felt isolated or like an outcast in society. I have felt like that before and to some degree it still hits me, but I try not to let it get to me anymore.
