Lionel Richie will releaseTuskegee, a new album of country duets, in March.

"I was born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama. I am a country boy and proud of it. To do this project just felt natural," says Richie in his announcement. "What began as a collaboration of talented people ended up being a great group of friends getting together to make great music."

But first, he has just announced that he''ll debut songs on The 45th Annual CMA Awards, airing live Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, with Little Big Town, Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts.

Richie is no stranger to the CMA Awards stage. But it has been awhile. In 1984, Richie performed Lady with Kenny Rogers and in 1986, he performed Deep River Woman with Alabama.

And this year's CMA Awards will feature several duets, including Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter singing You and Tequila, Rascal Flatts and Natasha Bedingfield singing their current hit duet Easy, and co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood in their first live televised performance of their No. 1 song Remind Me.

On Tuskegee, Richie performs 13 duets - with stars including Tim McGraw, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, Blake Shelton, Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.

Lionel's long had country influences in his music. "Sail On" had a semi-country vibe to it. Especially the way he sang it.

True,and I could tolerate those songs.But for some reason,I'm not too excited about this new project.

That's the whole deal. Why not try this? He gambled fucking around

with Akon on his last project and lost. He has nothing to lose by trying

but i'm not a country music fan to begin with so i can't see myself having

any interest.

I think that's why I felt sort of relieved when Brenda beat his ass...not just because he cheated, but because he had started to smell himself a bit too much.

He lost his songwriting finesse on solo album # 3, Dancing on The Ceiling.

I remember buying the album and screaming bloody murder over its astounding banality.

I'm used to Lionel selling-out musically. But doing a track with Akon was an all-time low point in his life, never mind career.

All things considered,I'm glad that the Commodores reunion never happened.The Lionel from those days is long gone.There's no way to make him "funky" ever again.We;ll just have to play those old records and enjoy the memories

The Commodores with JD Nicholas are not exactly funky either.

Me either. I've never owned a single one of his albums in my life, nor have I ever liked a single one of his songs. WAY too corny for MY tastes. I WILL, however, give him props for helping to coax Shania Twain out of her shell again after she claimed she "lost" her voice. It takes a special person to do something like that, so kudos for him in THAT regard.

You have to remember that most of The Commdores' funk tracks has Walter Orange on lead vocals, NOT Lionel Richie. Walter was on lead for most of the funk & disco tracks, while Lionel was on lead for all of the slow romamtic tracks.

With the Commodores, Lionel was on lead only for Sail On, Zoom, Three Times A Lady, Easy, Still, Oh No, Lady (You Bring Me Up), & Why You Wanna Try Me.

Got bless JD but i never thought he was a good fit. It would have been just

as well letting Sweet Clyde sing all the vocals. JD was a good fit for Heatwave

during his tenure there particularly since half the band was from England.

That's not entirely true but i get your drift. Lionel didn't start drifting away from the funk grooves

until later on in the years during the Heroes album. He sang lead on Fancy Dancer, Come Inside, Slippery When Wet , Hold On, Look What You Done To Me and probably one of the band's funkiest

underrated jams Gimme My Mule.

That's Lionel too dude. I can easily distinguish between the two.

Lionel had that classic funky southern yeoww wail in the 70's.

Sweet Clyde never did the yeoww wail and his voice was a little

heavier than Lionel's.
