prince did the greatest romance and baby knows at the tube. he played live guitar but everything else was prerecorded as he wasn't happy with someone during baby knows and they did a reshoot to film closeups of the band without prince. i bumped into prince backstage before the show and spoke to him, then when he got onstage i spoke to him again, asking him loads of questions

the day before the tube he did TFI friday and did baby knows and prettyman (off air but broadcast at a later date), playing live. i was there too

How did u find out about Prince playing on those shows? I remember watching that TFI Friday on the telly at the time & thinking 'Those folks in the crowd are lucky swines!' ha ha

He was way funky singing Pretty man. Much respect getting to chat with Prince. Bet he was real cool cool

i remember watching the tube the week before (november 1999). the show wasn't as good in the last year or 2 as it used to be, and it had a crap final band that week so i just turned off the tv and didn't bother watching them and put on some music. i was in the org chatroom and someone said they just mentioned on the show that prince was on the following week. i didn't believe it so i checked the site and it was true. no tour was planned that year so it was a surprise for him to do that, particularly with less than a weeks notice

anyways, gav managed to blag some spots on the guest list for fans and ran a competition or something like first people to reply and i got my guest list spot. then i got word about the tube as they approached a UK based fanzine to get 150 prince fans to makeup the audience at the tube studio in newcastle for a one off millenium special (as the show ended about 10 years previously). it turns out the guy doing that list was someone i met the year before when i was at cafe de paris, and at brixton i remember hanging with him and gav etc before the show. anyways after tfi friday, i travelled to newcastle with the guy who did the tube list and i became his plus one which meant that we got to go to the live part of the show in the evening which had a very tight guestlist as paul macartney, robbie williams, and beverley knight were performing. prince's part was pre recorded in the afternoon at 2pm, and after seeing him we ended up at the hotel prince was staying at and i bumped into robbie williams and band in the bar whilst maccas band were at another table. in the evening we found they asked for prince fans to be in the audience as at other times they didn't have enough people attending. we also found VIPs getting turned away like footballers as they weren't on the list. we were first in line to the live show so got the best spots. i shook hands with paul macartney as i shouted his name when he was on stage in front of me, and he was in a good mood. after the live show i ended up backstage in the toilets with robbie williams band drinking bubbly straight from the bottle. everything ended at midnite and as we had no hotel we had to roam the streets in the freezing cold till the first train at 8am, so going from meeting at the time 3 of the biggest names in music to roughing it in the street! after TFI friday we slept in daf's car which was also fucking freezing but nowhere near as bad as being on the cold november streets

when i went to paisley the following year i bumped into morris hayes and chatted about the tube and tfi friday, and a couple of minutes after he went upstairs, prince came down (unnoticed to everyone else) with a vhs tape, put it on the big screen and it was the tfi friday performance and we both stood watching ourselves on tv. prince high fived me during that performance and i mentioned to morris i heard they were playing it on the screens at the party, and mentioned the moment prince called me a bootlegger at the tube when i asked him to release in all my dreams on crystal ball too. i also mentioned the idea of a magazine with free cd every month... a few months later npgmc started and then you know about the cds on the newspapers and magazines... did i plant a seed?

Whoah Unique! Holy smokes mate, that is awesome!! That's the kinda stuff dreams r made of, hope u realise what a lucky person u r. Not only seeing Prince perform so close on those tv shows, but to actually go to a party at PP? That is pure fantasy for me! But to hang out with him & chat ... cool

Much kudos to you for ploughing the npgmc seed! ha ha, totally brilliant! See, we Scots r great inventors! The closest I ever got to giving someone a good idea was getting a local baker to start making cheese & onion pasties like they do at Greggs! Lol, no comparison there then! U lucky peeps being in the know. U hearing any truth in this 2012 UK tour stuff that's flying about?

what i mentioned is very much a short version of the story. i met prince a few times, been in the studio with him and the time, been onstage a few times, such as brixton and paisley park. even helped organise an afterparty the first night of the ONA tour in london when prince turned up with his dj. even dj'ed at paisley park. my first trip to first avenue was on the guest list. stood in that dj booth with bro jules at first avenue overlooking that stage made so famous in that movie. sat on his motorcycle, been taken to the cinema, it goes on and on

Eighties duo George Michael and Andrew Ridgley are re-releasing their 1986 albumThe Final - twenty five years after their split.

Shirlie Holliman and Helen Pepsi De Macque were the duo's backing singers, and Holliman insists that they all remain close friends, according to The Irish Daily Star newspaper.

The girls enjoyed huge success touring the world alongside George and Andrew.

When asked about her time spent with Wham! The Irish Daily Star reports Shirlie saying: "It doesn't feel like twenty five years. Wham! was such an important part of our lives."

Helen further pitched in: "There's a huge demand for us to come back, so you never know."

You know what? I'm a HUGE Wham/George Michael fan, but... in this particular instance, I really feel that it is quite necessary to quote the legendary Bunny Wailer: "A me say 'Why oh?'"

Always wondered why there was no video release of the Final concert. Was the recording crap? Or perhaps the performance?? Seemed like it would have been a money-maker back in the day.

Listening to the audio, it definitely wasn't. They performed all of the hits, Elton John performed The Edge Of Heaven and Candle In The Wind with them, then the finale was I'm Your Man with Elton and Simon LeBon

I read in some articles from '86 that it was planned for a release, but since this is George Michael we're talking about, he probably saw something he didn't like and scrapped the whole thing lol
