Debby Boone - You Light Up My Life {PBS 2010} You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

^^What are you talking about? I've posted Debby here before. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. To this day I cant believe that song was a huge hit. Its so sappy to hear right now. I dont even hear it on the radio anymore this song is not on the playlist of soft rock stations.

It's not soft rock, but adult contemporary or "easy listening" as it was called at the time. I read somewhere that this is actually the most successful single of the entire 70s decade.
I love this song and I'm not even embarassed to say so My mother had this 45 single.I like those mellow ballads from the late 70s...songs that people sometimes refer to as "schmaltzy".Amazing melodies and production!! Back in 1977,this song was HUGE! On the radio every half hour and Number One for weeks.
