Stevie Wonder - I don't get how he's constantly put in the greatest voices of all time category. With Stevie, to me at least, it's first and foremost about what he's saying rather than how he's saying it. There were and are people who could just flat out sing. Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Freddie Mercury...I wouldn't put him amongst those names.

Elvis Presley - Did not invent Rock & Roll. That seems to be a common misconception with many.

Bob Dylan - Genius songwriter but seriously needs to be kept off greatest voices of all time lists.

Michael Jackson - Talented songwriter but a bit overrated. Some material is borderline cheesy.

Wait so you think Elvis is a better singer then Stevie? i mean to be Elvis is not even that amazing of a singer.... And certainly not better then Stevie. Stevie had more range

Yes.

Overrated

Michael Jackson - IMO, he was not that good of a singer and was a trite songwriter. His strength was in his ability as an entertainer but that went weary in the mid to late 90's. I don't understand why people refer to him as a 'musical genius'.

The Beatles - I like their songs but they're beyond overrated.

Elvis Presley - Overrated. Stole black music and tried to make it his own. Annoying voice and persona.

Kanye West - BLAH. People keep rambling about how brilliant his work is but he's not that good of a rapper.

Jay-Z - Never got his hype.

Eminem - Same as Jay-Z.

Mary J. Blige

Alicia Keys - The piano gimmick is tired and so are her "vocals".

John Legend - Same as Alicia Keys

Beyonce - She yells through each song and adds a ton of unnecessary runs in her songs, shakes her weave and ass - rinse, lather, repeat. Boring.

Lady Gaga - Redundant

Adele - *YAWN* You're not Etta James.

U2 - LOL.

You are very brave guy. smile
These are most respected artists in this forum.
While I agree.

Guys, MJ is not overrated songwriter. It is ridiculous to say it. Many people do not even know that he is the author of most of his hits. His place in the lists of the best songwriters usually 30-80. He never entered the Top 30.
Jackson wrote many good songs, you really think that the place from 30 to 80 - is too high for him? I do not understand, frankly. lol

The Beatles are not overrated. They defined the vector of the music, their influence is enormous, and their harmonies are phenomenal, their tunes - this is a step forward in the development of music.
Perhaps some members of the Beatles over-priced, but as a team they really are the greatest ever.
While I understand why many consider the Beatles overrated. Any band / artist who'd be in their place, would caused a lot of claims too.
If not the Beatles, who earned the right to be called the greatest?? I'm sure no one will answer this question. cool

lol

I like Bob Marley , but a genius , as some make him out to be , he is not

Same goes for the other 2

The Beates indeed are the greatest band of all time highfive

Overrated: The Doors. Good music, but Jimbo's myth has given them a place in rock history they don't deserve.

Underrated: Peter Gabriel. Brilliant with Genesis, he has made a solo career both groundbreaking and successful.

Note: To become overrated, just die tragically. See The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, etc.

U2 maybe overrated, but there music to me has a lot more meaning, depth, musicianship and feeling then almost 90 percent of what MJ did.

Anothe runderrated? what about Annie Lennox? to me her & Teena Marie are the white queens of soul and outside this board are very underrated.
