Is Today's Music Really That Bad? List Your Favorite Music Since 2009.

Yes, if you listen to the radio.

No, when you put the effort into finding and supporting talented artists.

I say this because I was just thinking today about the slew of standout albums released since 2009

Maxwell -- BLACKsummersnight

Janelle Monae -- The ArchAndroid

Jill Scott -- Light Of The Sun

Mayer Hawthorne -- A Strange Arrangement, How Do You Do

Talib Kweli -- Gutter Rainbows

Erykah Badu -- New Amerykah Pt. 2 -- Return of the Ankh

The Stepkids -- The Stepkids

Raphael Saadiq -- Stone Rollin'

Van Hunt -- What Were You Hoping For

TV On The Radio -- Nine Types Of Light

Me'Shell Ndegeocello -- Devil's Halo, Weather

Bilal -- Airtight's Revenge

Newer artists like Empress Hotel, Electronica artists like Miguel Migs, and other hip-hop artists like Big Boi, Tanya Morgan, and several other artists not listed have made good music during that time. And that's just the music I've listened to; there's more to be mined.

List yours if you like.

Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid

wow, I forgot that album even existed, don't get me wrong, I'm not sayin' it sucks but it has been a complete bomb (in terms of sales); comfort don't worry, it IS the criminally underrated R&B album of the early 21th Century, just as Roisin Murphy's Overpowered was the criminally underrated electronic album of the early 21th Century...

I don't know that it bombed in terms of sales, was it expected to do that well? For an artist with no radio support I think she got alot of puplicity and alot of respect.

150,000 isn't bad for an artist who hasn't even charted a single.

Top 40 Music is getting gradually worst.

But in my opinion the indie underbelly of music, has just gotten better in the last 20 years.

Favorite album since 09?

Has to be You Can't Take It with You by As Tall As Lions...

As Tall As Lions combined jazz, Alternative Rock, Pop & R&B in a way I Have never seen before.

Especially when they used complicated rhthmic sensibilities like time metal bands used ala Meshuggah...

Maroon 5 eat your heart out...

This is whats wrong with radio...

they refuse to play this....

I must admit i don't really follow the current music anymore, because the lack of quality seems to depress me.. lol.

Too much plastic R&B / hip-hop incorporating dated euro dance-beats and people mistaking image over talent (Lady Ga Ga). Even the so-called indie-music doesnt seem to excite me anymore: a band like Arcade Fire feels like a bunch of posers / hipsters to me.

The music released in the last years that touches me comes from two singer-songwriters that are far from hip, don't fall into any movement, struggle to have commercial succes, but it doesnt really matter to me.. I happen to like their music.

Teddy Thompson: mixing folk, pop, rock and country. I love his voice and his songwriting is often very strong also (he does some great country-covers also).

I would like to ad a Danish singer-songwriter, who tends to combine the raw grungieness of the nineties, with the 'perfect pop-song' material of Paul McCartney and Neil Finn: Tim Christensen.

He has been busy far before 2009, but nonetheless i like to mention him, because he is very overlooked:
