I guess I'm "old," but I like a lot of his music, but he tends to come off as a "one-trick-pony" to me like so many of the current r&b singers. They tend to do the same types of song over and over. If I hear one more "ghetto thug" song from him, I'm going to go off.

But, at least the brutha can SANG!!!! He doesn't sound like anyone else on the scene right now. That's the most important part to me. And I like most of his songs. I don't mind the thug part because that's part of who he is. But, unlike many of his peers, he doesn't need any props and lots of flash to help him get airplay and sales. He's not a fancy dancer, he's not musically trendy, he doesn't film extravagent videos, his concerts aren't side-shows, he doesnt go out of his way to be an all-around entertainer. He's solely dependent on his voice and the quality of his music and that's what I love about him.

He's one of the singers that I will listen to on the radio and buy an occasional cd, but I wouldn't pay to see him live. I've seen him on a few award shows and heard him do radio interviews and the guy has no personality to me.

IMO, he hasn't brought anything different to the table since his "The Makings of a Man" album. The others have all been the same-ole, same-ole to me.

I don't like the "thug" thing because I think that is a big cop-out. There are lots of singers that could have been classified as "thugs" in their younger years, but when you grow up, you do grown things. I don't think a singer should still sing about "shortys" when they are in their 30s. Not to mention, I think a lot of that has to do with the way the record company wants to present them to us. They think all black singers should have a "hood" or "thug" mentatlity.

I don't really get this guy at all. He has SOME talent, yeah, but not enough. How long has he been around

Looks like his debut single, "Could It Be" came out in 2000, so that's 11 years.
