My sis and I have this thing where we "borrow" each others cd's and then after awhile just claim them as our own .
She has one of my Jamiroquai cd's that I'm pretty sure she was going to try to claim, but I put on this production in front on her son stating "this is my cd and you are just borrowing it".....
Now I have back up for when I'm ready to reclaim it.....

Top 20 ever is one thing, but it's EASY to name 20 MCs better than DMX. Hell I'll even go in alphabetical order.
Big Daddy Kane Big Boi Bucshot of Black Moon Mos Def (Black Star) Talib Kweli (Black Star) KRS-ONE (Boogie Down Productions) Grand Puba Common The D.O.C. Kelvin Mercer a/k/a Plug One (De La Soul) Trugoy the Dove a/k/a Plug Two (De La Soul) Rakim (Eric B. & Rakim) Guru (Gang Starr) Ghostface Ice Cube Jay Electronica Jay-Z Zev Love X a/k/a MF Doom (KMD) Nasir Jones The Notorious B.I.G. Big Boi (OutKast) Andre 3000 (OutKast) Chuck D (Public Enemy) Redman Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest) Tupac Shakur
And those don't even include at least 5-10 others.
Gritty and Great don't always go hand-in-hand for MC's. DMX is among the grittiest of MCs but is the among the greatest? That case just can't be made.

Let me add some more sisters to the list:
1. Eve (the pitbull in a skirt)
2. Salt (yes, Salt. She never gets mentioned. Lyrically she may not have been the best, but the girl could flow with the best of them)
3. Lauryn Hill

I'd submit MC Lyte is the greatest of all female MCs.
As for Doom, I submit he belongs up there because of his groundbreaking work as a member of KMD, his reinvention as MF Doom, and as one-half of Madvillain, the duo that for my $ made one of the greatest albums in hip-hop's history. He's on another level that few this side of Ghost can match. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

In no order
Nas Rakim KRS ONE Tupac Common Mos Def Biggie Tupac Wu Tang Clan
Prodigy
Q-Tip LLCool J Slick Rick
Talib Kweli
Ice Cube Chuck D Guru The Fugees
.... But I think Nas is probably the greatest just overall....
Ive always thought Jay Z was way overrated.. dont care much for him. Only has one good solid album really.
Krs One NEVER gets his due the same with Nas and so many...

No way
Best MCees:
NaS, Rakim, Slick Rick, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Andre 3000, Big Boi, The D.O.C., Eminem, Method Man, Redman, Raekwon, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Q-Tip, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, Ice Cube, Ol'Dirty Bastard, Coolio, Guru, Busta Rhymes, Ghostface Killah, Common, The Game, Royce Da 5-9, AZ
And I know Dr. Dre and Eazy-E don't write their own rhymes but I do think they have a very good style Greatest ever to me is NaS though without a second of doubt [Edited 10/17/11 13:26pm]

Dre don't get in my best rapper list. Eazy worked with the best with what he got and I loved N.W.A. but Ice Cube and MC Ren were WAY better emcees.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
They're not in mine either, they're in the honorable mentions part Ice cube is classic but I don't like him as much as I should because I get offended by his racist lyrics.. I have been rediscovering slick rick lately and OMG the man's first album is just pure genious... [Edited 10/17/11 13:05pm]

I can get past that shit.
Slick Rick's the don though.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Talking about Hip Hop though, my favorite artists I will always admire are Dr. Dre and NaS they 're both the best at what they do, beats vs. rhymes

^ After hearing so much shit about Dre, I can't agree.
But Nas? Definitely. | |

this clip proves me Dre can still do it
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Not taking anything from him because he's a great producer and a pioneer of West Coast rap but I think he took too much credit for what was really collaboration.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
TRue but it was still Dre's vision, put all the same people together without Dre and some of the magic is missing . Dre has that magic touch that can take his own and other people's stuff to the next level. [Edited 10/17/11 13:24pm]

No mention of E-40? One of the best of all time, better than DMX for sure in my opinion. Forget his commercial sound, he's been around since about 1990 and made many classics!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Which is why I would never place Dr. Dre alone by himself... it will always be collectively with NWA.

E-40's definitely a legend.
