FUCK the Rock Hall of Fame..

This is why the R&R committee needs to increase the number of inductees each year. Having just five is dumb.

I thought it was missing someone. Todd gets disrespected even by those who think so and so got "snubbed". He's just as much an imprint on rock & roll as the snubbed artists are and those that eventually got in. [Edited 11/1/11 13:27pm]

Jann Wenner doesn't like The Monkees, they're not getting in. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

OK..Time to vent...
The RARHOShame is a good ol' boy network ran by Jon Landau, Jann Wenner and Dave Marsh. These are the same knucklehead idiots that have pull in Rolling Stone and Saturday Night Live.
These are the same douchebags that I'm sure have kissed Springsteen's ass backstage at all his concerts and snorted many vials of cocaine with members of the Eagles at David Geffen's house in the hot-tub hedonistic 1970's.
They've already said that there is no way some of the acts (that have been snubbed for years) will get in. Dave Marsh has already gone on record and said KISS is one of them.
Granted there are some acts that deserve to be in there..but there are some one hit wonders that don't belong.
Don't be shocked if you see Vanilla Ice, M.C. Hammer or Matthew (Ain't Nothing Gonna Break My Stride) Wilde get in there next year. The Hall (and those 3 assholes) are fucking clueless.

Hall of Fame should be taken about as seriously as the Grammy's.
For those artist who don't ever get a wooden plaque nailed up in the Hall, they should consider it an honor.

True. | |

I have a question about the Hall... Why do they consider some groups to be the same when they aren't? For instance the Jackson 5/Jacksons were from two different eras with different members but the Hall merged them as one. Randy is not inducted. Michael Jackson should be listed 3 times instead of 2.

I have a better one: why did they induct Smokey Robinson solo-wise when the Miracles was really the ones who should've gotten in?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
And that too. And why doesn't Diana Ross have a solo induction?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Diana was constantly dissed by the rock committee.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
And by the Grammy committee. Do you know she has no Grammys? None. Zippo.
Too bad Mathew K wasn't around during the nominations.

Yeah I know, nominated 12 times both as a Supreme and solo-wise combined.

Technically, J5/The Jacksons are the same group. The only reason they changed their name is because Motown claimed they owned the name "Jackson 5", when they already had that name before signing to Motown. But I guess the brothers didn't register it, and Motown did. The Eagles, Rolling Stones, Genesis, The Temptations, and many other groups had different lineups. Having a different name doesn't make someone a different group. It's not they would consider The Moments/Ray Goodman & Brown or The Time/Original 7ven different groups. Mariah Carey is elgible to get nominated in 2013
oh yeah what year was prince and Madonna inducted into the hall of fame would love to see their speeches [Edited 11/1/11 15:05pm]

It's not the same group to me. If Michael had left people wouldn't be calling it the same group.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's why I just can't trust the way the committee conducts their business... I mean if you're gonna induct the original quintet, induct them all especially if "Shake Your Body" and "Can You Feel It" is added to their list of essential songs released by them, don't make no sense. I mean if they were "technically the same group" and all. The way the committee does it is suspicious.

You know what I mean. I mean by the public and media. And this was a flop. Some example.

Many of the 1980's Genesis fans don't know Peter Gabriel & Steve Hackett were in the group, but they were inducted with them (but oddly Anthony Phillips wasn't, since he was the main person who put the band together). A lot of the acts in the Hall are little known by the general public, so that is not the criteria. The Jackson 5 crossed over, The Jacksons not so much. The Hall has few if any acts that were only popular on the R&B charts. I'd say Johnnie Taylor or Teddy Pendergrass more had more success than Percy Sledge, but Percy had the really big pop hit, when the others were only popular with black audience. Some of you hate on all Award type ceremonies. I have never understood the hatred for the Grammy winners. The nominations, the nominee list and the votes are by the industry - for your own, of your own. Many artists, wruters, producers, engineers that meet the qualifications of being in, don't sign up or allow their NARAS membership to lapse. Perhaps before hating on something one should have investgated the process. As for the R&RHOF, well, it speaks for itself. Some get in, some don't, oh well. Rather than bitching about it - write letters to the Board of Directors, be pro-active. Selection when not obvious, can be very subjective. Hate on the American Music Awards, now that is the real crap! Music Royalty in Motion

I for one actually don't hate the R&RHOF, I actually love talking about it. But yeah the AMAs are a bunch of crap.

wow whitney or janet wasn't inducted either

Whitney ain't gonna get inducted. Janet might in five years.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Why not Whitney? And why does Janet have to wait when Madonna got in on her 1st year of eligilbility?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Agree... very irrelevant and just as biased if not more...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Probably same reason Diana ain't in.

It's quite astonishing to me that Todd Rundgren isn't in the Rock Hall of Fame.
Their are some great Artists in that list. Kate Bush and Kraftwerk amongst others should be inducted.
Not having The Wailers in their as well is a crime.
