TV ONE's UnSung should feature....

Johnny Taylor - Disco Lady, Cheaper to Keep Her, Who's Makin' Love - never won a grammy wtf?!

Carl Carlton - She's A Bad Mamma Jamma, Everlasting Love, He was originally called Lil Carl to compete with Little Stevie Wonder whaddya know.

Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free, You've Got the Love - chick been married 4 times damn. No wonder she didn't release more music, she been busy in the romance arena.

There not a whole whole lot known about them but what great songs they had. UnSung should focus on those underappreciated artists. smile

I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. rose

I wouldn't mind seeing those.

What about:

Angie Bofill - "Angel of The Night" "I Try", "This Time I'll Be Sweeter", "I'm On Your Side" . She's had a run of bad health lately, but I think she is still touring.

Loleatta Holloway - "Love Sensation", "Hit & Run", "Run Away". She was a club queen. She worked with the SalSoul Orchestra. She passed earlier this year.

Cheryl Lynn - "Keep It Hot", "Star Love" - I don't know anything about what's going on with her now.

First Choice - "Dr. Love", "Love Thang", "Let No Man Put Assunder"

The Emotions - "Best of My Love", "Don't Ask My Neighbor".

The Jones Sisters - Nights Over Egypt" , "Who Can I Run To"

Marlena Shaw" - "Go Away Little Boy"

Ooh

Cheryl Lynn and The Emotions would be good ones for sure. Got To Be Real is in the Dance Music Hall of Fame. My dad says she got her start on some talent show in the 70s called the Gong show or something like that and she sang that son on there. I gotta get on Google.

Sister Sledge would be a great feature too. I believe they still perform, mostly in the UK though.

Yes. They tried to say they used an anonymous donor but the niece came out and said it was her eggs.

They were one of the biggest acts (having country, pop and r&b hits---the only act to do so) of their time. How the heck are they unsung? lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

So did Sheena Easton.

My choices would be Stephanie Mills and Chic. There's enough that went on with Chic to make it a two-parter if the show was so inclined. Lawsuits, a tempermental diva or two (Diana Ross & Aretha), changing musical tastes and a few deaths as well.

Gritz, you right about Johnny Taylor, that man had a voice soulful down to the core. I'd love to see a story on him.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Chic is NOT unsung and for the last time, neither are the pointers. Having major behind the scenes drama DOES NOT make one Unsung.

I think that both Chic and the Pointers are indeed Unsung.

The Pointers had HITS, and had interesting careers and lives as far as I am concerned. But somehow they seem Unsung as measured by the lack of reverance they receive at large. They do not seem to be invited to awards shows, or intereviewed or referred to much in articles, and I don't often here them brought up in conversation. I never hear a singer or group say "oh yeah, the Pointers were my inspiration," or anything near that. I really would have thought that they would receive a whole lot more respect for their work and history than what I see coming there way.

Chic's reign was brief and they seem to be thrown in with the death of disco time frame, and disregarded to some extent because of that. I couldn't tell you the name of either lead singer. They seem a little bit Unsung to me.

I would love to know more about Marsh Wash. Whenever I have heard her speak she has been on point and compelling.

The Marvelettes!

THE MARVELETTES, goddammit.

I got a few hip-hop stories they could document:

D.O.C.

DJ Screw (I know screw music is still very much underground but the mainstream hip-hop industry has had a few issues of their albums screwed & chopped, but no one gives Screw props for what he did in the Houston underground hip-hop scene, him and his crew, a story on him would be real interesting)

Also they could cover the Geto Boys (but then Bushwick Bill wouldn't be deported - allegedly - and Scarface still wouldn't be in jail for child support lol).

Other R&B/soul/rock stories that have yet to be covered besides the Marvelettes:

Larry Williams

Billy Stewart

Angela Bofill

Cameo

Nona Hendryx

Me'Lisa Morgan (Melba and Freddie have been covered; well Freddie's episode still weeks to go)

Alyson Williams

----

If I think of more, I'll tell it but that's all that came at the top of my head.

Chic are Hall of Fame runners-up so yeah they're definitely not "unsung" to me. Neither are The Pointer Sisters.

Ghetto Boyz would be a good Unsung feature - shit Scarface alone could have an Unsung episode.

I'd like to know what happened to that dude that sang Kung Fu Fighting.

WAR would be a good Unsung feature, man they had some tight tracks. I adore WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS. cloud9
