I also find it frustrating that all B-Sides aren't included. Also, I'm not a lover of their entire career, although they have allways been interesting and pertinent. These two facts prevent me from buying the box set.

But when I think that this truly is the first vinyl pressing of many of these singles, I seriously doubt. Hell, I may finally buy it!

Oh come on, admit you want to buy it because there's a lipstick and vanity mirror in the boxset lol

lol Exactly. I'll stop pretending I'm a serious Manics fan... lol

Actually that means you're a hardcore fan! lol But they don't have Richey's blood from the 4REAL incident.. pout

It surprises me that you like Postcards From A Young Man. The album is not bad, the first half is loaded with singles-worth material, but then it goes downhill. Journal For My Plague Lovers is far better album, in my opinion of course. Such a shame The Manics want to take a break for some time..I can't wait to hear "70 Songs Of Failure and Hatred".

If I buy the box, I'll cut myself writing "I'm an org addict" and I'll post it here. lol

Can you tell me about that project (70 songs...)? I haven't heard nothing about it.

I like Postcards From A Young Man a lot because it captures very well the sound of the Everything Must Go era, which I love. It's not as good as that one, but it isn't that far. Journal For Plague Lovers is OK, but, in my opinion, it's very far from The Holy Bible, which is supposed to be its referent. This Joke Sport Severed is my favourite.

Journal wasn't supposed to be Holy Bible pt.2 - it's more like a missing part between HB and EMG. My favourite is William's Last Word (and I usually hate Nicky's voice! lol).

"70 Songs.." - Well, there's not much info about that one, apart from very short article on wiki and almost the same thing on the foreverdelayed fan site.. sad It was supposed to be released this Autumn, but Nicky contradicted it with the whole "we will disappear for some time" drama. Which is a good thing, because if they want to release 70 songs without any filler, they should reinvent themselves.

I'm not a fan of the first records with the exception of The Holy Bible, which is awesome. And what came in the 00's seems quite forgetable to me, at least until the last album, Postcards From A Young Man, which is a true return to form and an updated version of their sound from the second half of the 90's.

I also think Richey Edwards and Nicky Wire are excellent lyricists. I've frequently connected with their politics too. Maybe not as much now as before, but I still found Wire's discourse quite interesting.

Any orgers also fans of the band? I haven't seen a thread about them before...

What! i love Generation Terrorists and Gold Against The Soul, sure when Richey went they got alot more commercial but the last few albums have been brilliant, Postcards From A Young Man and Send Away The Tigers are fantastic.

cool

They've always been an interesting band, but, to me, they gave their best of the Richey era with The Holy Bible.

I think that Gold Against the Soul was kind of the odd album out of the first three. In some ways it sounds like it should have preceded Everything Must Go. I think it is a good album but it is slightly more commercial sounding than Generation Terrorists and, especially, The Holy Bible. I wonder if the "extreme" sound of The Holy Bible was an apology for the more commercial Gold Against the Soul?

I frequently think The Holy Bible is one of the most brilliant and extreme moments in rock n' roll history. It's a very difficult listen, but also a rewarding one. I love it as extremely as the album demands, I think.

I agree with what you say about the commercial sound of Gold Against The Soul.
