Remember when this was a brand new song, hearing it played constantly on the R&B stations in Detroit in the early 90's. Almost hard to believe this song is about 20 yrs. old.

Notice how you never hear black male voices like this much these days? There are only a few singers that get any airtime that have "real man" voices:

Jaheim

Anthony Hamilton

Anthony David (barely)

Aloe Blacc (barely)

Its voices like Keith's that are being denied attention because the "powers that be" prefer voices that don't intimidate them and they are always trying to sell music to teen girls, so they avoid voices that may remind them of their fathers in favor of voices that may sound like their boyfriends.

Keith is a bad dude. I always thought he just came along a few years too late and didn't get the shine he should have.

Love it, the whole "Make Time For Love" album is top notch.

Gotta dust off my copy and give it a spin.

I do too! I also love the radio remix with the strings at the beginning and the remixed vocals at the end of the song.

My family used to have the entire album this song was on, it was pretty good actually, the whole thing is just classy. I always liked his voice. Plus he was fucking hot too in this really dignified, elegant way.

THIS should be a Keith Washington Appreciation Thread! cool Not only do I remember his signature hit, Kissing You, but there was also a duet he did with Kylie Minogue entitled, If You Were With Me Now, that was very good as well.

I like the longer version (4:56) of this song better, with the longer instrumental intro. But, this is DEFINITELY in my "Slow" playlist in iTunes. I always have it followed up with "I Go Crazy" by Will Downing!

Sigh...I miss the days of REAL singers and REAL slow, soulful songs!!

If I'm not mistaken wasnt "The Queen of Soul" Crushing on Keith back in the 90's? I also believe that "Kissing you" became so popular that it was used as a Soap Opera couples "theme song"....

And I think Keith's popularity with the song got him a role on the CLASSIC "New Jack City"....That Damn song paid Keith's Bills on the real...LOL....

My father used to play this over and over and over again. Atleast he gave me a break from Earth, wind and fire. Excellent song and voice. Was this dude blackballed from the business?

I'm not sure why Keith never caught on in a big way. This brutha had (has) looks, charm, voice and talent. I've always heard he had a really big ego so that could have held him back. Plus, rumors of his bisexuality may not have helped, neither. I heard Phyllis Hyman "outted" him back in '95 during a show they were doing together. Not sure what was going on but the two of them were not getting along.

To my knowledge Keith was never Blackballed. "Blackballing" doesnt happen as often in the world of R&B. R&B stations will still play your music regardless of bad PR. The Record Label will only drop you if you ain't selling and will PROMOTE your Shit if you're in a-world-of-trouble.... Only Country stations Blackball their Country Artists when they're misbehaving or whenever they go "Liberal"...

What happened to Keith is the same thing that happens to a lot of Artists. The Public didnt follow him with other Music projects. Same thing happened to Tony Rich, Lisa Fisher, Jody Watley and hundreds more...That's why a lot of Artists are THANKFUL and greatful to have a strong following over-seas. Sometimes they have to leave The States to make that Money...

Keith wasn't in New Jack City. He was in Boomerang.

That was Christopher Williams in New Jack City.

That's not really the case with Lisa Fischer. I heard that she just kinda gave up on her solo efforts. She was more comfortable in a background role.

So what were the Sales of Lisa's second Album? Was she able to tour with it? No Artist gives up on a thriving Solo Career.

It really is. It's just one of those albums (we ALL have several in our personal musical stash) that just FLOODS the emotions / senses with sweet memories of days (and nights) gone by.

There WAS that brief moment in POP time when Keith seemed to be Luther's heir apparent....only to have left us this gem of an album instead.

IMO, it's enuff. And...let's be real.....Lutha HAS NO HEIR. lol

Lisa never released a 2nd album. She got out of her contract with Electra by doing a few sountrack songs and she asked to be let out of her contract.

I'm sure she probably made more money as a background singer. At one point, she was a highly sought after background singer. She has done almost every Rolling Stones tour, so I doubt she's hurting. She also toured with most of Luther's tours (except for the last one). Look at her bio on wiki, you will see she has a big resume.

I have a feeling that is why she won a Grammy is because she has so many friends in the industry that knows how great she is.

I was always very disappointed that Lisa choose not to continue her solo career. I thought "So Intense" was impeccable! I was so looking forward to a follow-up.sad
