Really, my brother, really?

I assume you mean well but this one is lost on me, BSB add nothing to their cover, it's a direct sample. The System's is cool even though it sounds stuck to 1987 froever. They get the vote.

I LOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEEE "Don't Disturb This Groove", I always have. I don't really give a shit about the rest of The System's work, but on the strength of that one song alone, they kick BSB's ass.

And...isn't this just another 'vs' thread? lol

Okay,

I did listen to both versions because I wanted to be fair.

now here's my take on remakes.

On a remake, it can work if you are not doing an exact copy

(ie, change in tempo, or concept.... like TLC redoing If I was your girlfriend from a female POV, or Chaka Khan doing I feel for you" more like a early hip hop song with the rap vs Prince's disco sounding original). You have to bring something original.

Exceptions to this rule is if you do an exact copy and you BRING IT! OWN IT! (ie Aretha Franklin remaking "Respect" or Whitney redoing I Will Always Love You remake of Dolly Parton's version, Isley Brothers Summer Breeze (Actually they BROUGHT it and changed the tempo) or MIchael Jackson redoing Smokey Robinson and the Miracles 'Who's loving you".

The Backstreet Boys did neither. They didn't bring something new, and they didnt' BRING IT.

All they did was a mediocre copy. Not quite as good as the original in my opinion. When people make a copy and only do as well as the original ( like Mary J.) or not as good as the original... my thoughts are the copy cats are reaching in the coffers of the original... they are making money off the work, popularity and reputation of the original.

YOu will notice these copycats will never remake an obscure song. Always a fairly popular song that will sell simply for the nostalgic effect.

Like Michael Freaking Bolton redoing all those soul men hits...When a man loves a woman, Sitting on a dock of the bay.... or Simply REd, If you don't love me by now. See? Those copy cats biggest hits were already hits for someone else... otherwise they wouldn't have any.

So if I didn't vote already....

THE SYSTEM.

I'm pissed the Backstreet Boys tried to cop the System. I really really liked the System's version. This was my DAMN JAM back in the day! <---- on that note THANKS for posting the System.... had to jam on it again.

I think the System still has mad style and vibe in this video. and the bass line heard on a good 1980s circa sound system with pyle driver speakers.... unbeatable. these puny azz iphone headphones do no justice to this song. pout

Wait, shit - that's what I get for not bothering to scroll down further...I had no idea the OP meant that BSB covered the song. eek

I don't even have to listen to that shit though to still go with the original, because the original is perfect.
