Kelly Clarkson: "Song Leaks Were Much Worse Than Being Robbed"

the image

August 23, 2011

Kelly Clarkson has described the leak of her new material as a form of robbery.

The 'My Life Would Suck Without You' singer previously said that she was not angered by the leak of 50 new songs.

Clarkson has since opened up about the incident, saying that it felt worse than being physically robbed.

"Oh my God, have you ever been robbed? I have. I've been physically robbed a couple of times, but this is much worse," Clarkson told Entertainment Weekly.

The singer had just returned from a vacation in Tahiti when she learned that dozens of new songs had been leaked on the internet.

Clarkson went on confess that she was worried about how the leak would affect her image.

"Those songs came out and people are like, 'Oh my God, what direction is Kelly going?'," Clarkson said.

She continued: "I think what made me mad was that - one, people stole from me, and two, everybody had no idea what my next album was going to sound like. That really caused a lot of confusion."

The 29-year-old discussed her recently announced album Stronger, revealing that she still has not heard the final version of the record.

"I don't even have it, by the way, because I'm so freaked out to put it on my computer," Clarkson said.

Sounds like she needs 2 take a little control of her material. Maybe do what Kanye and Jay-Z did. No emails or saving material on 3rd party sites.

I don't even understand why she's surprised or even all riled up by that. Seriously, it's a new day and age. Pretty much every artist should expect their stuff to leak.

Yeah usually the ones who trust people who don't have good trust issues and leak it on purpose (*coughlabelscough*, *coughartistsstaffcough*). I swear some people who complain about leakages are usually from artists who either fell out, never had a hit album or continually brag about working on a new album on their TWITTER.

Then complain to your manager or A&R guy, since they were most likely the one's who did it. I just don't understand how music can be "leaked" by someone who isn't in the artists camp. Who else had access to it?

If all of the "demos" are being stored on someone's computer or being stored on a 3rd party site (google docs, etc.), then someone can hack and get the music if they want it.

Not the artists so much, but these stupid ass young producers and engineers.

I think the same thing happened when her last album came out.

If she worked with country producers and writers, she wouldn't have as big of a problem.

I can believe it. confused And then they complain when something's leaked. lol It's like committing robberies but blaming someone else for setting them up.

Dear Kelly, if you want to listen to your music at home without having to put it on your computer you can burn it on a CD-R or record it to a tape.

Hope this helps.

Kelly's not just another another American Idol participant. She's sold millions of records as a solo artist and made some really terrific records. She has definitely proven her talent, that she is more than just another reality tv star. I don't know why people are being so negative and vile about her here.

You mean she DID sell. Who knows how it will be now. The music industry changes rapidly. I don't really expect Kelly (or Carrie) sell as many records as they used to. Maybe Carrie because she's got the country following but Kelly, I don't know. To me that's all she is. She never really shook that stigma.

Kelly's had many positive reviews of her records. When she was on AI, she did more MOR ballads, but she distanced herself from that and created her own distinctive pop/rock sound. She has influenced other artists like Pink and Katy Perry.

I don't get the hate for her. She has a great voice, has catchy songs and writes heartfelt lyrics. Her music has diversity to it. I think some people just think AI=bad without hearing her music. I like Kelly, but I have never listened to or bought an album by any other person from AI. I just like Kelly's music and voice, nothing whatsoever to do with the show.
