k.d. lang - Invincible Summer

I remember being into this album when it was freshly released. The biggest reasons for buying were an article and interview in the LA Times that mentioned the influence of electronics on the record. 15 and in search of a lush, electronic pop sound similar to Ray of Light, the cd was purchased.

Well, it isn't as juiced in tempo as that record nor as electronic, yet there is a good album past the initial dissapointment. The lushness of the work fuses every moment with warmth & aural gorgeousness. My favorite songs are "The Consequences of Falling", "Suddenly", "Extraordinary Thing", "Love's Great Ocean", "Simple" and "When We Collide".

k.d. lang is a beautiful reader of every song, and while not every composition's as evocative as her voice, the lesser tunes are still listenable.

Was anyone else into this record?

LOVE this album. It's a slow burn but so, so lush. "Extraordinary Thing," "The Consequences of Falling" and especially "Love's Great Ocean" are spectacular. Something about this collection just has a real sense of divine spirit. kd's got such a gift with her voice, and while some recent collections are taking me a long while to really get into, this one, along with records like "All You Can Eat" and of course "Ingenue," is one I treasure.

I think my favorite song of hers right now is her cover of "The Right to Love." Simply sublime.

I like the same songs but 'Simple' and 'Suddenly' don't stand out like the others.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

"Simple" stands out because it's the only song that doesn't have percussion. Plus, it's a gorgeous song. smile

k.d.'s performance and the trumpet on "Suddenly" is what makes it stand out, imo. Both are understated, yet evocative.

*Wishes there was a youtube video available for the studio version of "Suddenly"*

There's only one other album of k.d.'s that I own.

I like it as well, but have on vinyl so it receives very few spins. lol

In total agreement. I think k.d. was in a great place spiritually when this was recorded.

kd's got such a gift with her voice, and while some recent collections are taking me a long while to really get into, this one, along with records like "All You Can Eat" and of course "Ingenue," is one I treasure.

I haven't heard All You Can Eat or Ingenue, apart from "Constant Craving". boxed

That was beautiful. She's such a great voice.
